Transfers
Under Withers, we've already seen a big QB transfer (Vad Lee) for the Spring Semester.

Also, I know that we've also picked up St. Augustines College transfer Jordan Griffin.

I wonder how many more we could pick up... new coaching staff means everyone is playing for spots and that would be appealing to me as a BCS guy looking to have a fresh start under an exciting new coach.

Any rumors of any tOSU guys coming here?

The Rivals "stars" don't make or break recruiting classes but the more competition on the field for practices, the better the performance for games. Also doesn't hurt to have depth.

RE: Transfers
FWIW, according to a NDSU poster on CS, the # of transfers on NDSU's team was ZERO. I was stunned to hear that.

Young football fans, in general, make way too much out of transfers. You simply don't need them to win.

I remember a certain transfer that led us to a national championship in 2004.

Does anyone know anything about Kwinton Smith, South Carolina WR?

All the coaches are following him on Twitter.

Seems like Kwinton Smith would be a huge get. Great offers from BCS schools -Clemson, Alabama, Auburn, etc. 4 star Rivals out of HS.

Based on his bio, maybe we could use him for baseball as well. Says he was drafted by the Rangers out of high school and tried out for the USC baseball team but didn't make the final roster.

RE: Transfers
Breeze Article called out two players at the walk-on tryouts.
Ke’Von White
Averett Bio
"Highlight tape"
Breeze Quote
Quote:White was a running back for two years at the Division III Averett University in Danville, Va. His high school academics forced him there after being recruited by the likes of the University of Michigan, Indiana University, Towson University and more while at Midlothian’s James River High School.
After shining in his two seasons in Danville with 820 rushing yards as a freshman in 2011 and 748 as a sophomore in 2012, JMU’s former coaching staff recruited him to try to play for JMU. When the new coaching staff came in, he touched base and found out about Monday’s opportunity.

Steven Boyser
Quote:Boyser played a year at Division III Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va. He found out about the tryouts last week from friends on the team from his hometown of Virginia Beach. He, like White, had been training since he arrived at JMU in the fall and started asking around about it then.

I can remember a Delaware QB transfer that won a Super Bowl. I also remember JMU's best RB ever being a transfer. I'd agree they have a low hit rate, but there's a big upside.

I think the key with transfers is not to go crazy with transfers but use them to fill a particular need/weakness on the team.

I've seen like six 1a transfers in my career that just didn't make it. We beat Delaware in 04 and that had like 5 1a tranfers on that team. They are good if they come here and compete.

I agree, I agree. Just because they come from a certain school doesn't mean they can play. It's usually based on the situation. The best ones seem to be good players who are just blocked at a particular position. I think Till is pretty good. Wilson is pretty good too just haven't seen as much of him at safety b/c of his injury. At one point, you could argue Apted was the best OL we had. JMU has had some good ones.

Not to upset our resident Hawai'ian, but it's kind of hard to argue that when JMU has had a handful of NFL O-linemen in the past few years. Watford and Brooks come to mind and the only reason that Dorian isn't still in the league is because he didn't want to play anymore. The Steelers definitely wanted him to stay.

Would be a great get for us. Huge. I hope he is over his academic issues that caused a suspension at South Carolina.

so our coach is a grade 1 a-hole, but players from Ga Tech, USC-South and UNC are transferring in?

Works for me.
