From this outsider's point of view this hire seems to be taking an awfully long time. There is only one more weekend for recruiting visits now. It seems like the new guy will really be behind the eight ball with this class.

Seems like a new name is rumored every day. Bill Clark from Jax State is the name mentioned most.

Why does the prez need to be there anyway? Doesn't the BoT make the call at the end of the day anyway?

I would much rather hire the right coach at the expense of a single recruiting class than hire the wrong coach trying to save one

As to the time - McGee leaving was not a move that was telegraphed in advance. It's not like he was rumored to be going elsewhere or something. Charlie Strong got the UT job, Petrino weaseled his way back to Loserville, and McGee jumped to join him. He got off the hot seat, got his buyout paid, and a 100k raise to boot.


Yes, all AD's should have a short list in their desk drawer, but it was still unexpected, and the timing was about as bad as it could have been.
