First blush I agree with MB but man Rob was wide open. That's a good shot to take. I wanted to take it inside. Their length did hut us and they were packing it in so there is that.

And their extreme height is why we probably couldnt have gone for an alley-oop, as suggested a bit earlier.

RE: Should have gone for the overtime at the end
We are going through a rough patch as a team right now. Two tough losses in CUSA play already. Next week's road games will be a huge challenge, but we need to steal @Tulsa to make up for dropping this one. Then early February gives us ODU, ECU, and @F_U. A 6-game winning streak going into USM would be nice.

And as for UTEP's last possession, I was terrified that the longer the review went on, the longer they were going to count the basket, but it turns out they were more interested in looking to see if the shot hit rim. Watching it live, he had his back to the basket with 2 on the clock and no awareness. I didn't see any way he got it off by 0, but also didn't see the light go off or hear the horn.

I just knew the refs were going to have to consult some terrible All-Access quality footage that didn't show the clock, the basket, or even that end of the court.

Let's not over react here too. We were one shot from winning both games in regulation. It's not like we were blown out. The upper half of this league is much better than anyone is giving it credit for including us.

Also one stop away from winning too. The switchout that lead to the Cooper three was nearly insurmountable.

I thought it was the right call. Frazier drove the lane and didn't have a good look, so he passed to the corner where Rob had a wide open three. You can't ask for better than that. Sure, Frazier could have forced the issue, but you can't leave the game in the refs hands. Anyways, it shouldn't have come to that last play at all if we had made one more three or a couple of free throws.

Hey, if Rob had made that 3, we would all be praising what a great call it was.

I'm worried about Swing, he has not been looking like himself lately. Maybe his back was bothering him last night, even though he boomshakalaka'd one.

As much as I hate the loss, I think for our conference, they weren't bad losses. They were vs teams who should be among the top teams come conferenece tourney time. Problem so far is we're not really in sync alot of times on offense so we keep teams in the game or get behind those good teams we play.

I agree. With a play here or there, we could have won the New Mexico State, MTSU and UTEP. No disrespect to Frazier/Watts, but weneed a pong guard similar to AJ. When AJ was here teams refused to press us.

I'm not sure about his shooting form because I haven't seen that much in person or on tv lately, but it looks a little strange.

Looks like his legs are glued together & his shot is a little stiff.

I just knew the refs were going to have to consult some terrible All-Access quality footage that didn't show the clock, the basket, or even that end of the court.

I sit on the front row in the corner right across from the visiting bench. I saw that play clearly and *knew*, beyond a doubt, that the shot never touched the rim. When they grabbed the rebound and pulled it back, the clock was on zero before the shot left his hand. He just was not thinking about getting the shot up fast.

I about blew out a blood vessel screaming "Airball! SHOT CLOCK!!!".

Once they finally went to review it, I knew we should be golden but it wasn't until Floyd's body language told me that I knew for sure they had the call right. That never should have taken that long to review, it was clear cut, so look at the clock and reset it.

Yeesh.

And yes, Swing is not shooting nearly as much as in the past, very seldom takes a three, and just does not seem comfortable shooting. No idea what's up there.

Swing's problem is he's thinking too much and aiming instead of shooting.

It was pretty obvious in the UTEP game when he shot those two quick threes on the consecutive trips up the court. The second three had a huge arc on it. His closest three attempt that almost went in was when a defender closed out on him, so I think that proves he's thinking too much and not playing freely.

I agree with that assessment, but only on shooting. Personally I thought he looked good on defense, if not really good, and I thought the offense looked better when it moved through him more. He makes some nice passes to guys getting some good looks. While his 3'a have been off, I think he should be more involved in the offense in other ways than just standing on the perimeter most of the time.

He gets timely steals too. I want his shot back, but I think he's earning his keep. Of course, I'm from Vestavia and extreeeeemely biased in his favor.

They should just stop playing down to the competition and at least win by 15 in the games there suppose to win. This has been a problem with UAB basketball for a long time. This team should be on a mission to destroy anything and everything that gets in there way!!!!!! That goes for the football team as well.
