Rice WBB vs LA Tech
Rice leading 51-32, but the bigger story is that Kuster needs 3 more boards to pass Lauren Neaves as top rebounder in Owls' history.

Kuster just tied the mark of 1,190 career boards.

Another board and she is now the all-time leader in rebounds!

Great win by the Owls!

LaTech has really fallen from the elite ranks. A good warning for Rice after Wayne retires in 10 years.

just home from Tudor....Kuster 21 points and 15 boards....Goodwine and Hawkins really coming on as frosh. Jessica is 79 points from setting career scoring record with at least 14 games to play. She is also second in career blocked shots.

La Tech hasn't been elite in years. They're about 25 years removed from that status to begin with.

Nice win by the ladies. Definitely our best offensive effort in quite some time. Congrats to Jessica. She'll be tough to replace although I will say that Goodwine is our best recruit since Jessica. I don't know if she will start this year or not (Hawkins was moved into the starting lineup tonight and that was a good move) but I suspect she'll be our double-double threat the next three seasons.

They ended the 2002 season ranked 6th and have fallen steadily since then. Prior to 2002, they had a finals appearance, another final four and 2 elite eight appearances from 1998-2001.

It's hard to sustain what Barmore did with LaTech.

I think that's overstating it. They are exactly Kim McKulkey removed from that status.

Very good win but where the hell were the students? I saw only a few students plus the band and the cheerleaders. I still say Williams is not the right couch for Rice. No NCAA appearances and only one NIT appearance. I am willing to wait and see how the season goes. We need to give the girls a lot more support. They play hard and seem to have a certain chemistry among themselves. Goodwine can be a special player for us but we need more then one of her

Still a very big drop off from the McKenzie era that had multiple NIT AND NCAA tourney trips. And Rice even won a game against a highly rate UC Santa Barbara team in the NCAA tourney.

Men's basketball went from poor to very poor with the coaching change, but women's basketball has fallen from good to mediocre.

Oh, not endorsing the job being done for sure.

RE: Rice WBB vs LA Tech
It was McKinney, not McKenzie. I too was wondering where the students were. At least the band and cheerleaders were back. But for it being the third day of the new semester, only a handful of students felt like they had the time to show up?

One of Dr. Kaarlgard's top priorities to me should be to increase student attendance at all home sporting events. Even if it's fellow athletes from other teams, I can't just understand why we can't be getting a minimum of 20-50 athletes at all of the home games when campus is in session. We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.
