Tell me exactly Dungeon Master where the duty to retreat is infringing upon the right to bear arms.......... You guys never think these shyt through...... Stand Your Ground vs. Duty to Retreat. If you feel your life is threatened you have the right to use deadly force.
Absolutely wrong. It's clear that you don't understand SYG laws at all. Here's the law:
"A person is justified in the use of deadly force and does not have a duty to retreat if:
(1)
He or she
reasonably believes that such force is
necessary to prevent
imminent death or
great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the
imminent commission of a forcible felony"
The law would not apply to say shooting someone for throwing popcorn at you. It is unreasonable to think that you'd need to use deadly force to stop popcorn from killing or maiming you. He'll be convicted of 2nd degree murder and die in prison.
Additionally, SYG wasn't used in the Zimmerman case, just self-defense law. Martin was trying to bash out Zimmerman's brains (aka great bodily harm or death) and he got shot. There was reasonable doubt all over the place. In the popcorn case, there is no reasonable doubt, any jury will convict the ex-cop unless some new crazy facts come out and show that the victim was really trying to kill the ex-cop somehow.
Trying to say SYG is a bad law is like claiming all self-defense is bad, it's just stupid. SYG isn't that different than regular self-defense. It just says that you can defend yourself rather than risking your life when you might have had an opportunity, in hindsight, to flee.
