RE: Should Watts start and Swing be moved to the bench?
There is no reason to change the lineups. We are winning games. Haase has used a total of 92 lineups during the 15 games we have played. The starting lineup have been in games for 121 minutes and have scored 13 more points than the opponents.

The next most used lineup is the starting lineup, but substituting Williams for Washington. That lineup has played 57.25 minutes and have scored 20 more points than the opponent.

The next most used lineup is the starters but with Williams in for Rucker. That lineup have played 45 minutes, and have been 11 points better than the opponents.

The other lineup that has been most effective is Rucker, Williams, Alihodzic, Frazier and Watts. This lineup have only played 15 minutes, but have +20 differential. Haase has used this lineup more frequently lately.

The least effective lineup has been Williams, Mehinti, Rucker, Frazier and Washington. This lineup has been used in 8 games for 24.75 minutes. The opponents have out scores us by 11 points when this lineup is used.

RE: Should Watts start and Swing be moved to the bench?
We've lost 2 out of our last 4, by my count. We have a 2-4 record against good to decent teams (UNC, Nebraska, UNM, Temple, LSU, MTSU). We are beating up on the sisters of the poor at this point. I think we could've played the bench the entire game against most 8 out of 9 of our other opponents and still won (probably excluding Rutgers since that game was so close).

My point is that we could be playing a lot better, even though we've had a pretty good season thus far. Swing is struggling. The lineups don't have to be static. There's no reason not to try some new lineups out, especially when your numbers agree with what most people are saying - Watts deserves more playing time (+20 point differential as you point out).

I'm not necessarily advocating for changing the starters, but I definitely feel that Watts and Mehinti need more minutes (even though your +/- numbers don't necessarily agree with playing Mehinti more). I'd say those minutes come at the expense of Swing and Purifoy. Rucker and Williams play to vital of a role for our team to sacrifice their minutes.

Agree with both you guys. Purifoy should be a situational player based on matchups only at this point. Give his minutes to Watts or Mehinti; hell, even Madison or Rideau.

As I have said, Haase uses many different lineups during the game. 92 in total and new ones that have not been used before in each game. Watts and Mehinti's numbers have gone up dramatically in the past few games.
Against Chattanooga and LSU, we used 11 lineups

Against Alabama A&M, we used 21 lineups. Against Newberry, 24

Against MTSU, we used 16 lineups.

It just seems to me that Haase is already doing what everybody is wanting him to do.

RE: Should Watts start and Swing be moved to the bench?
The team need to know if you are not playing well, you will sit. At this stage in his career, Swing is still the best option, he does so many things well, and he is a player you have to account for...
Thats important to have to prepare for the whole team means we have players at every starting position that need to be accounted for.
If Swing cannot hit the three and have a hard time guarding the 2 and 3, he becomes a liability.
So I say yes move Swing to the bench, until he proves he can compete again a the level expected of him.
The lack of playing time is a great motivator.

Swing, playing only 17 minutes and not being in there at crunch time, I think sends the message. Again, Haase is doing what you are wanting him to do.

Swing is most definitely not the best option on this team.

What's the best line for Alihodzic and Mehinti being on the floor at the same time? I much rather see Rucker back at the four whether C.J. is at the three or we go three guards. I've noticed three guys who are/were in a slump they should be the 9th-11th guys the future is now

I think we let coach play who he wants! Was that too snarky?

+1

But it's not like CJH has taken UAB to the big dance. Just some things to look at or for.

I think that most of us can agree that Coach Haase has done a very good job so far. Coach K wasn't going to the dance with the roster we had last season.

Our numbers and record are what they are because of the lineups that have been played and used just far. With some tinkering, could they be better? I think so. We've had a good team on the floor this year, but we have to do something to jumpstart our ball movement, passing, and offensive flow. No more <1 assist/turnover ratios!!

Swing is the best option to starting a freshmen, however, there is a thread today, that more then make a case for Watts getting more PT.

The deeper into the season we get and the more PT Watts sees, the more validity there is to the idea. OTOH, Swing is a senior who does a number of things for the team.

Let Coach coach. He knows what the team is doing and is capable of better than we do. I know that this runs counter to the "everybody's a coach" message board philosophy, but still...

The coach knows what he is doing is the obvious comment but it tells others to shut up.

How many threads and related articles are on this board about the coaching search...so to followup on some of our unslicited, they know what they doing comments, so does Mackin, yet there are no lack of comments on the coaching search.

It's a message board, thats the beauty of being a poster on a message board, you can comment on anything or not and it doesnt have to be based on anything but opinion, you dont need to have stayed at a Holiday Inn to be an expert in your on opinion.

If we took the advice of poster, myself included, we would shut Blazertalk down and keep our opinons to ourselves, and not talk about what others have to say here.

I come here to have an opinion, not to take shots at the coach and I know thats not what is being said, its just that, the coach knows and wait and see are okay if theres panic in the street, and a run on the bank, but not so much when we are here and talking and exchanging views and opinions about subjects we have in common and find interesting.

Maybe the AUP should be updated to provide guidance on what can and cannot be discussed on this board.

1. Questioning who should and shouldn't start - Violation of AUP
2. Having a less than positive opinion about UAB Football - A definite violation of the AUP....lol

I didn't say shut up and let the coach coach, I said he probably has a better handle on what's happening at practice and on the court than any message board poster.

And that's the truth and you know it. I didn't tell you or anyone else to shut up. At most I questioned the validity of their qualifications to judge over our head coach's.

Sure, it's a message board, post away. Some will agree with you, some won't, some won't give a damn. Same for my opinion, I accepted that a long time ago.

Opinions are like rectal sphincter muscles, everyone has one.
