RPI rankings for Louisville opponents.

We’ve made a lot in this space of strength of schedule and Louisville’s NCAA tournament resume.

As it stands, Louisville’s in need of some “signature” wins. Some sites — namely CBS — even list the Cards as a borderline tournament team altogether. I’m not ready to go there, but Louisville sure needs some wins and some help.

That help can come from the teams the Cards’ve already played. UNC’s stumbling through ACC play isn’t helping. But hey, a win over Southern Miss could help in the long run. Seriously.

The NCAA released its first RPI ratings of the season on Friday and Southern Miss is looking like a pretty solid win for the Cards.

Including Sunday’s home game against SMU, Louisville has six more games against RPI Top 50 teams. The Cards are 1-2 against Top 50 teams, 2-1 against 51-100 and 10-0 against everyone else.

Let’s run through the rankings as they relate to Louisville.

17. Kentucky
18. Memphis
21. Cincinnati
30. Southern Miss
33. UConn
43. Louisville
48. SMU
58. UNC
78. Missouri State
92. Louisiana-Lafayette
131. UMKC
142. Western Kentucky
172. USF
191. Temple
193. College of Charleston
197. Houston
219. Rutgers
229. FIU
241. UCF
265. Hartford
293. Fairfield
299. Hofstra
336. Cornell

Man, the American is bad.
