Disease spreads to basketball
Guess I'm just too old fashioned but the same sickness that infected college football is obviously now spreading to basketball.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the-...ncaab.html

Why bother having school colors when they simply become an accessory on the uniform. Next is adding the design to the compression arm sleeves, the compression shorts, the knee brace, the wrist bands, the head band, etc.

Sorry, but nothing is as fashionable as playing good fundamental basketball: defense, ballhandling, crisp passing, smart shot selection, back-door cuts, blocking out, helping make your teammates better, listening to your coach.
Having a unifying slogan on practice gear or warm-up clothes was one thing, this is going too far.
College athletics will be the death of itself.

+1

I'm 03-old and not the best demographic they're looking for but the more it tries to be like the NBA with stuff like this, the less interest I have in watching.

Don't diss Wes Unseld (41). He could rebound and throw outlet passes like no one's business.

Wes at 6-7 and 260. This was before weight training in the early 70s. Hayes could play with the best power forwards in short shorts

The Bo Ellis design uniform form Marquette is ugly. NCAA now requires that all shirts must be tuck into the shorts.

except Unseld was not a power forward but a CENTER who guarded (and often outrebounded) guys like Abdul Jabbar, Nate Thurmond, Walt Bellamy, Moses Malone, Elvin Hayes, Willis Reed, Wilt Chamberlin, and even Bill Russell for a year. All those guys are in the top 10 all time rebounders for the NBA and Wes is 11th....

I see the sales numbers on jerseys and that figure is just from one ecommerce retailer. Big money is made on these jerseys especially with Oregon. Unique unis will only continue to grow.
As ugly as some of these are they make money.
Only ones that have really struggled with sales were those Adidas Zumba unis basketball teams wore last march

Unseld was the first true enforcer in the NBA. Nobody messed with him, not even Chamberlin and old #6 would just walk away.

When I was a grade school Wes was one of the guys I idolized and wanted to play like. I was a stocky 5'8 playing center covering guys 6'0+ every game. Easy to hit guys with an elbow in the gut and forearm in the back. They had to reach down.

And about uniforms, there is a reason people still buy the old school teams wear them people like them. They indtify with them and players. As well as some current classy ones or at least ones that have conquered time. In a decade, who the hell is going to remember the one game special or one of the 89 combos of Oregon or Baylor. No one, and no one will be buying. No identity.

The only team a power conference to never make the NCAAs.

Tradition!
