Tyson Summers
Out of all the names al.com listed as interested candidates, i like tyson summers the most. he is a intense guy who wouldnt put up with the typical uab non sense. No HC experience but i like the guy. Currently at UCF as linebackers coach. D cord for Fiesta bowl. Former Linebackers/spec teams cord at uab! Hes my vote!

I like him too. I really am not scared of going after another coordinator. Just because McGee didn't work out doesn't mean nobody else can.

Tyson Summers was a really good special teams coordinator for us when he was here. I don't know about him as a d-coordinator.

Anyone who watched the fiesta bowl can clearly see coach summers has what it takes to call the shots on a national stage. I think mackin needs to hire a defensive coach to take over. As history has shown with our last two hires, OCs don't make good head coaches in Birmingham.

RE: Tyson Summers
We need a complete change of philosophy and need to go with a defensive mind this time. Anyone can throw our current players out there on the field and get the same results or better we've gotten offensively.
Our offense has never won games for us. When you score 55 points and still lose...

Agreed. Def needs to most love right now. Get a def guy as HC and let offense be run by the OC.

Richard Owens is a great OC in my opinion. I like the thought of him staying with the offense and summers running the defense. Both young, smart, and very intense individuals. There's been careers built on less.

Sorry but i hope we don't stick with McGee's offensive philosophy (Owens). I would like to get back to a spread attack like Aub or Oregon. That is why i am a big Neal fan because i think we could be successful in that style and have an aggressive/attacking defense that may give up yards but gets TO'S

With Jordan Howard in our backfield I wouldn't care if we didn't throw a pass all season.

I think Owens should be considered by any new coach. Remember that he was "the last OC standing" after the first chosen ones were hired away.

I would love to have Summers and Zo back. Both are great coaches. I hope we find a way to keep Owens, but I think I agree with 82blazer. I like Owens, but his philosophy hasn't really worked out here. I wonder if Owens would change from McGees offense if he had the chance.

I'd love to have Zo back too but just like Jackie Williams, he's in a better place and knows it. I don't mean that as a slight to UAB but it's the reality. Unless Zo was offered the DC job here, I don't see him making a lateral move back here.

You can still run the spread (Auburn) without throwing the ball all over the place.

True. I just like the thought of two tight ends and a fullback coming at you leading the way for #7. Not sure what he ran in high school but I'm sure he'd thrive in any scheme.

To clarify, I think Summers(if hired) would offer Zo the DC spot. Otherwise I agree Zo wouldn't return.

I really hope Coach Owens gets to stay. I think he was a great coach and I think he would help keep the recruits together. He does have a very good mind for football and certainly knows his stuff.

Actually, we were pretty bad on special teams when he was here. Our kick coverage was pretty terrible and he made punters punt rugby style.

I concur with this guy. We just need to find some tight ends that can block besides backman at times.
