Per Football Scoop

They've jumped the gun before, but still always had the right information.

If true, he is the best available and will do a good job in the long term, however the transition could be a little rough..

I expect him to run a lot of option out of the pistol and shotgun sets. We ran some shotgun/flexbone mix this year

Well our AD did not go with a triple option coach like Ayers or Jasper. We will start a gradual move away from the triple option. I am ok with that. I just hope for Fritz and our AD that we show some success next year. If it is a big struggle they are going to be heavily criticized.

But we have a coach. Now let's get a staff together, try to do as well as we can recruiting this year and roll on.

Someone tell those of us who are new to the game a bit about his background. You guys seem to know a lot about him.

Slowly moving away from the TO is a good thing. Recruits are loving the spread offense these days. A lot of smaller schools are landing big time recruits just because they sling the ball all over the field. It will take a few year to get the right right players, so GSU fans will have to be wait it out.

They might bring Doug Ruse in as OC...which indicates mediocrity is just around the corner.

Total record of head coach is 128-56.

Took his team to the FCS national championship game 2 out of the last 3 years only to lose to North Dakota State. Has been at Sam Houston State since 2010 where his record is 31-10

The skill position guys will transition fairly easily to the pistol option schemes but the o-line will find the blocking schemes very different. No more chop blocks...In the long run Fritz is a great hire...The defensive guys will love his constant pressure zone blitzing style...

If they keep there DC's and bring in Ruse then they will basically be ASU of the Roberts era! GSU fans better get ready for 6-6 seasons and never winning the Belt.

Coached at Sam Houston State, was an extremely successful D-II coach before that. In 2009 I believe, took Sam Houston State from a mediocre at best program and had them playing for the FCS national championship both in 2011 and 2012 (both years they lost to North Dakota State). He has won at a high level pretty much everywhere he has gone. GSU did very well, IMO.

He was coach at Sam Houston State, who took over after legendary coach Ron Randleman. He led the Bearkats to two 1-AA nat champ appearances, where they ran into North Dakota State and their maurading horde. Previously, SHSU was a good program, but he took them a little higher.

Well y'all found a way to recruit Texas. He looks like a strong hire. I agree that y'all will move from triple option to more of a zone read option and probably run it better than us right away. Thanks Fran.

Wow. Great hire. This was the guy I wanted to keep an eye on when Hud leaves Louisiana...Looks like he will be coaching against us instead.

Head coach at Sam Houston. 40-14 record, including 2 trips to the FCS National Championship Game (2011 and 2012).

After a long search I'm just glad it's over. And with a hire that should bring a lot of excitement brings even more relief
