These are the teams rated from 100-125 in the Sagarin ratings. I wanted to see how many of them are averaging 9 or 10 three point shots a game, which Bobby Vint says it the way it should be. I list them in order with three pointers a game, and their 3 point percentage.
Charlotte..15...37%, Marquette...15...32%, Oregon State...14...26%, Boston University...24...32%, Alabama...17...35%, Delaware...22...36%, Hawaii...19...35%, Stephen F. What you will find is that 84% of these teams shoot more than 15 three pointers a game. Oral Roberts and Oregon State were the only two teams to shoot below 15 a game. You will find the same with the groupings 1-100. You will find that 40% of the teams averaged 20 or more three pointers a game. One interesting thing I discovered was that Porter's Chicago Loyola team averages the same amount of three pointers we do and shoot nearly the identical average. Since both he and Steve have been either not successful or moderately successful, maybe they need to update their offenses.
So what does all this prove? That most successful teams utilize the three point shot a lot more than we are using it. However, you have to have an offense that creates three point shots and be committed to it, which we are definitely not. And what else does it prove. I obviously have too much time on my hands.
