Shockingly, the media actually identifies the suspect as being black. Now will the thug be charged with a hate crime?

LOS GATOS (KPIX 5) – Police are looking for a man suspected of sucker punching a mother outside a Los Gatos dance studio Monday afternoon. Authorities said the attack could be related to a recent phenomenon known as the “knockout game.”

“We heard a commotion like a thunk and a scream,” dance instructor Mariana Sorbal told KPIX 5.

The scream came from a woman outside the Dance Attack studio on the 14000 block of Blossom Hill Road. According to Los Gatos / Monte Sereno Police, the woman fell to the ground after she was punched. Her injuries were not life threatening and she was treated at the scene.

Witnesses said the suspect left the area on foot toward Harwood Road, police said.

The woman could be the latest victim of the so-called “knockout game,” where unsuspecting people are knocked out at random with one punch, for the sheer thrill of it.

Police said a man in his 20s clocked the woman in the face. Sorbal said the victim just dropped off her daughter at the studio.

“It was in the middle of the day. It wasn’t even dark yet, it was full of people. So obviously they’re trying to look for attention,” Sorbal said. “It’s kind of scary, that someone thinks it’s a game to go ahead and punch people.”

Police describe the suspect as an African-American adult in his early-to-mid 20s, standing 5’9” to 6’ tall with slender build and short brown hair. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans and a white baseball cap backwards.

The story calls him African-American. How do they know he is of the African descent, but they don't know his actual height?

Also, what does he face since he was too weak to even knock his unsuspecting female victim out? And with a ball cap on, how do they know he has short brown hair?

Matter of fact, it was probably this guy. He looks Californian and looks like a guy who couldn't knock an unsuspecting woman out. Not sure about the African descent part though. Actually, he kinda reminds me of what dbackjon would look like. No offense.

Good point. They shouldn't assume anything. They should have simply said he was "dark complected".

But you said that they cannot assume that he was African American therefore you cannot assume that he was black.

I've actually been a victim of this "game." About two years back I was walking back from lunch (broad daylight) and some hoodrat starts following me on the street asking me dumb questions and stuff. I tell him to go away and I ignore him but the second I turned my back to him I get clocked in the back of the head. I fell down but I got back up and pushed the idiot off the sidewalk. Unfortunately, his two buddies appeared out of nowhere and I got bull rushed and they started kicking me when I was on the ground. Since it's broad daylight, people were on the street and started yelling at them and the three punks ran away.

Lucky for me, I didn't lose any money and only got a fat lip/bloody nose, but it really shows you how tough these punks are if they need to have backup (which I'm sure they all do) if one of their victims actually fights back. Best part of it all is that the police caught the main dude and I got to testify against him in court. Three years in Maryland State prison for assault and battery...a small victory, but a victory nonetheless.

There was a story here yesterday about 3 or 4 "random attacks" by black youths on others over the New Year's weekend in downtown Denver.

After being asked if it was the knockout game, the police spokesman said that they are looking into the incidents but were not prepared to call it anything other than random assaults. One guy had his jaw broken in two places and will need reconstructive surgery.

This is the way this stuff gets downplayed by the city of Denver for PR reasons. They had a spate of these attacks a year or two ago that went on for months before the public was alerted to it. Funny part is that the downtown district has CC cameras everywhere, so it was obvious what was going on to those in the know monitoring the cameras. They did arrest a group of young dudes finally in those cases.
