VCU Football?
VCU’s AD says exploring football ‘far’ in the future

Given the economic climate and a priority on improving facilities, Virginia Commonwealth athletics director Ed McLaughlin said exploring the addition of football is “far, far away” in the school’s future.

Whether to add football has been a bigger topic at VCU since former President Eugene P. Trani stepped down in 2009. VCU has the second-largest enrollment in the state, and McLaughlin said there are passionate supporters for and against the idea.

We’ll look at (football) as we go,” he said. “It’s not as if we’re not going to have the football discussion for 10 years. It’s really going to depend on how aggressively we can do everything else.”

Improving facilities remains McLaughlin’s top priority. Except for the Siegel Center and Sports Backers Stadium, the Rams are behind other A-10 schools in facilities, he said.
