Miami (OH): A source tells CoachingSearch that Western Michigan grad assistant Drew Engels has accepted a grad assistant position on Chuck Martin's staff at Miami (OH).

I expect to hear that kind of news about all of our GA's. Be surprised if we don't.

Drew was on Chuck Martin's staff one year at GVSU. Why not move on to join a winner that you know?

Well great.... That sets us back a whole year now. Looks like another 1-11.

Usually just one, and for one year.

Used to be you had to be progressing towards your Master's to keep the job.

I know Drew from Grandville H.S. - makes too much sense for him to join a coach he knows from GVSU and the local area. Drew is a great guy. Happy for him.

Under Cubit, the norm was 2 years and then they moved up.

The job of a GA stinks but schools can offer vastly different package for them. The stipends can very greatly along with meals and housing or none of that. I does make sense for him to move and no a days it is not unusual for someone to be a GA more than one year.

Being a GA is all about positioning. He clearly believes its better to hitch his wagon to Martin. Being a GA normally stinks so you better get something out of it.

GA's weren't loving life last here year.

Exactly how many did you talk to?

I guarantee you the move was more about Chuck Martin, and less about P.J. Fleck.

When we see full time guys bolting then we get make something out of it.

I agree. That was the biggest thing I was looking for this off-season.

Nobody will hire the OC or DC. Not after this last year unless they step back.

Imagine if we had hired Martin. Our admin would be behind him 210%!! That'd be very impressive to see.
