Agree. I'm not sure what, if any, the message is from this game. Shoot better? Get the ball inside more? Rebound? Play bigger when the other team is beating you to death inside? Don't go 1 on 3 so often? Maybe the lesson is this: The Tigers aren't as good as we thought. NCAA tournament as an 8 or 9 seed again.

RE: Played a bad game today, but 2 positives
The idea that the two seniors who have been here for 4 years somehow have been disappointments is still the one galling idea. The very kids who saved the program to the point that losing a home game to a really good team is treated as a biblical disappointment as many should be a testament to them.

As it stands- under Joe and Chris Memphis has done nothing but get better each and every year- is still in line to get top recruits, is still one of the favorites in the AAC, still may win the national title this year- and still get mocked after any poor game. There is no good will for them at all by so many.

Part of this is natural. For many, the world began in 2005-2006 when even against good teams, our teams could play poorly and win. Our current teams cannot. Why? Rodney Carney was an All American. As was CDR, while Rose and Evans were lottery picks. This is not an excuse, because our current team needs no excuses. They need to play better, and have shown they can and likely will.

Even with the twitter world pressure of getting beat up for anything short of great.

We will really miss Joe and Chris when they are gone. Teams will still be really good and maybe better at times- but not due to Jackson's absence.

RE: Played a bad game today, but 2 positives
First of all CJP has got to learn to adjust as the game goes, next of all the four kings thing is not going to work in every situation. CJP has got to play
his freshmen more in key situations when the seniors cannot or will not get it
done. Skill can only be built through experience!!! The other teams big men will not get fouls if you dont attack them with big men!!! We have only one
guard who can really shoot consistently and that is Joe Jackson. Crawford
should attack the goal all the time and his shot will start to fall in the flow of
that. Geron Johnson should also attack the goal all the time, he is a defensive player and can over power other guards. He is not a shooter!!!
Finally, Dixon Jr, needs to play in the flow of the game, and needs to learn
when a shot should be taken. He is not superman!!! Did CJP sign some type
of see it, take it contract with him. Why is he in the game when his game is
sucking??? Sooner or later you have got to put all of your bigs in the ring
win with them or lose with them, but put them out there. This four king
thing is proving to be very inconsistent. Someday you will need a talented
bench and that day has come.

After we looked like a YMCA team against Okla.St, all the majority on this board prayed for is that we could make it to another game against them and make it competitive.

Having turned that disaster around and winning that game, plus the tough no quit game we played against Florida, earned enough merit points to avoid coming down so hard on Pastner or the guards because of one loss....to me at least.

Yep. Expectations of rolling through unblemished, as usual, have certainly been squashed. Hopefully, we will make the tourney and having played tougher opponents
will serve us well.

This. I expected to win against Cincy at home, but we just flat got punched in the face & laid down. Playing in this tougher conference will make our young guys toughen up more & everyone will have to learn quicker, including Josh. In the end, it'll benefit us in march as long as we don't lay too many eggs.

I believe that to some degree, but to win you have to be better than the opponent. Getting beat doesn't make us a better program. The quote "either got it or you don't"

You said so little in so many words. But your final premise is ridiculous. I guess we had better just lay our football program down now, too, because, hey! we don't got it yet!

If we could just get someone to determine which teams in our league "have it" and rank them in order, we won't even have to play any games. 01-wingedeagle

Well said, and I agree. We knew there would be losses this season. Doesn't mean the team sucks. Can't afford to have too many games like this one and the first OkSt game, where we can't buy a bucket and turnovers are a nightmare, but they happen. To all teams, at some point.

I still believe we've got a superior team of players who will overcome adversity as the season progresses. What worries me is that we thought we were coming into this season with a very deep bench, and that is turning out not to be the case.

If you learn a lesson and don't make the same mistakes next time, then yes, you do indeed get better, regardless of whether you get beat or not.

I thought we already learned our lesson @ Oklahoma State.

We played better today than we did at OK state.

It doesn't mean we played anywhere near our potential or put out the effort we should have, though. This was a lousy game for players & coaches alike.

I agree with everything tigergreen said in this string of posts.

We didn't play at our best, the Bearcats were very, very good on defense and took advantage when they had the opportunities.

We'll be facing several of these situations this year and have the opportunity to make amends multiple times.

Coaches, players, and fans are facing a new situation in a more challenging conference. I expect that we'll do well when all of us understand that we've got to step up our in-conference game.

If we get blown out by Louisville, then this team is in a world of trouble.

We need to come out swinging on Thursday, and play our tails off. Even a close, hard-fought loss shows that Josh got their attention. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised.

We have the players to win but not if Josh keeps the 3 guard line up. Play 2 guards. Rotate the 4 bigs and use King/Iverson at the 3. King is a 3 not a 4. Pastner has the players to create matchup problems for the other team but by playing small ball he's giving that potential advantage away.

The 3 guard lineup will have to do until King, Wilson or Iverson are ready. I personally think King would be if he knew he would get 20 minutes and was allowed to play through his mistakes.

Shaq
Nichols or Pellom
CC
GJ
JJ

And I have always felt JJ and Dixon should not be on the floor together little if any.

I took the time to try to highlight what I thought were legitimately good points in this hodgepodge of text. Attack the goal seemed to be the main point of the post, but I wasn't willing to work hard enough to decipher anything else.

That was my point. Well past this point, "it is what it is"... We should take off the blue glasses. Doesn't make you less of a fan.. Enjoy the wins, take a step back and accept that a sweet 16 for this group of seniors is the ceiling. Final fours are usually reserved for college teams with players that will spend at least some time in the nba. We don't have those players. It is what it is. I still wear the tiger gear proudly.

I agree. I think sweet 16 is as much as we should expect this year as well....MAYBE elite 8, but that's very optimistic, & a lot of things will have to fall our way for that. All this final four talk after the 2nd ok state game was just insanity.

Again, I hope I'm proven wrong.
