RE: Art Kaufman/Fred Tate Gone
How did Kaufman recruit at Tech? Was he decent there and just did not cut it here or was this just an HR decision 2 years in the evaluation?

Maybe he was just a place holder...not sure what Chizek's buy out payment status was this time last year. I can dream, right?

FWIW, Art Kaufman was the highest paid AAC assistant coach this year according to football scoop. $355,000. Hopefully he was on a 1 year deal. If so, we have some funds to go after talent.

Like Tate, he was only there a year. He came in late in the recruiting cycle when he was hired and didn't recruit anyone before the staff moved on to UC. Prunty was the main recruiter at Tech.

RE: Art Kaufman/Fred Tate Gone
Does not look like he recruited much in his 3 years before that as LB coach and DC at North Carolina, either. Hired a guy to run a D at 2 schools and seemed to handle the Xs & O's pretty well. If recruiting was never his thing, and is a deal breaker why the heck did we hire him and make him the league's highest paid assistant? Seems odd. Not like after 30 years as a coach you are going to flip a switch and become a guy who eats and breaths recruiting.

My only forehead slapper is the lack of continuity this causes on one side of the ball when we are trying to move ahead from the transition year stuff. Hate having the message, terminology, etc the guys on D have heard for a year chucked especially when it looked effective for the most part. Wish they would have just handled this last January instead.

Oh well. Next guy better be the entire package. Midwest recruiting ties would be a plus-plus.

Perhaps there are 2 reasons. One, TT found out that it is a little tougher to recruit to UC than originally thought. And secondly, and this may ruffle some feathers, but maybe TT is looking to be even more "hands off" and needs his assistants to step up and do more?

I think you are batting 500 here. The recruiting angle seems correct. I actually get the feeling from his show that he embraced a more hands on roll during the course of the season

He did. I was really happy with what I saw in the Houston and UL games. He was animated and hands on. Coaching guys up. Getting fiery.

Then he went back to just watching and not talking to anyone during the Belk Bowl, though. Entire sideline followed suit, IMO.

Seeking coaches with Midwest ties for recruiting? Outstanding! Besides like everyone on this board since January of 2013, who would have thought that was a good idea? 03-lmfao (fire away, fellas...)

Just kidding. Sort of. Glad someone finally figured that out. We have desperately needed Midwest recruiting roots, IMO.

Let the speculation begin. Anyone from the Penn St. staff maybe? A lot of talk about whether Luke Fickell may be out after this season as well.

Aw heck. I might have to swallow my snarky comments to UL fans and embrace him.

Who recruits D for Narduzzi at MSU? Anyone ready to make the jump from position coach?

Throw a bunch of money at Ed Orgeron to be recruiting coordinator/dline coach/assistant head coach. The man can recruit like no other

Never thought about it, but he was Miami's DL coach when Tubs was their DC in the late 80's and early 90's.

I can't say I like the thought of UC going into Ohio Stadium next year breaking in a new Defense with a new Coordinator. But the way it sounds and the way they played last night, it looks like O$U may have a new DC as well.

Yes. He's a hell of a recruiter but definitely dirty. He got USC (first time out there under Carroll), Tennessee and Ole Miss in trouble with the NCAA when he coached there. Plus, if they brought him in as DC he'd likely use it as nothing more than a 1 year stepping stone to something "better".

Kaufman was a terrible recruiter. Always has been. I would love to get Chizik. He's a great Defensive Coordinator and a solid recruiter as well, but I dont know what kind of Midwest ties he has, if any.
