Are there actually any names being rumored out there for the two positions?

He stated his next coach needs to have Midwest Recruiting Ties... there are some interesting rumors.

Is Chizik coaching anywhere right now? He was always a hell of a DC.

I don't care if he has Midwest ties, having a guy of his reputation as your DC will likely open a ton of doors. If he is a choice, I choose him.

I don't think he is currently coaching anywhere and I'd love to add him.

Looking at his Wiki page, he is not anywhere at the moment. A year away likely gave him the itch, though you wonder if he'd consider a demotion to DC and even if he used it as a stepping stool to get back into the HC game, so be it.

If my memory serves me correctly, I'm pretty sure he was an ESPN contributor during the season in studio. Chuges could probably help me out on that one.

Correct, Chizik has been doing some radio and television bits but has otherwise taken the year off to spend time with family (accroding to an article I read the other day).

He does have the national name to recruit very well even in an area that he does not have a lot of familairity. If a guy like Chizik comes on board as the DC I still think we need to pick up another coach in some capacity to give us more of a local presence. What's more, my guess is that Chizik would only be here 1-2 years and then move on to either be a DC at an elite school or head coach somewhere. Would we want that?

They should reach out to former Ohio State DC Jim Heacock. He not only is an outstanding recruiter and proven coach. He gives UC instant credibility with every high school football coach in the state. Heacock is very well known and very respected. Would be a huge get if he was hired.

I agree. I suggested him on another board the other day. He won the Frank Broyles award back in 2007 and had some stellar D's at OSU. He is also known as a very good recruiter and teacher. Guys like Cox at Lakota West would scream like a school girl if he showed up looking to recruit a player.

Fred Pagac anyone? i know some on here might have an issue getting an OSU alum/coach to to take the reigns but his defenses were some of the best the Bucks ever had. He's currently listed as an NFL LB coach with the Vikes. That's most assuredly going to change.

RE: Art Kaufman/Fred Tate Gone
So i was reading up on some of the turnover that might occur at Penn State and they have two guys that might fit the bill. Larry Johnson Sr., who is up for the HC job at Penn State, is the interim HC, co -DC with Ron Vanderlinden, LB coach. Both look like they can recruit and have mid west ties, by virtue of their ties to Penn State and other stops (Vanderlinden).
