Sunbelt Football Attendance 2013 versus 2012
College Football Crowds 2013

From the article:

Among the five major conferences, the ACC again ranked last with 49,624 fans per game. That was an increase of less than 1 percent from 2012, when the ACC had its smallest crowds in 12 years. Pittsburgh and Syracuse joined the ACC in 2013.

The new American Athletic Conference, playing its first year without Pittsburgh and Syracuse, averaged 33,711 fans. The old Big East averaged 39,185 in 2012. The AAC's top two attendance leaders, Louisville and Rutgers, are leaving the conference.

======================

Sunbelt Results; biggest increase to biggest decrease by percentage; includes average 2013 attendance

1) Georgia State +27 (15,577)
2) Idaho +17 (14,744)
3) Cajuns +14 (25,976)
4) New Mexico State +13% (16,050)
5) Western Kentucky +5% (18,334)
6) Tie: South Alabama -5% (15,926) TxState -5% (18,062)
7) Tie: AppState -6% (24,894) stAte -6% (24,913)
8) Troy -10% (18,906)
9) GASouthern -20% (14,828)
10) ULM -32% (17,035)

And so not to disappoint those C-USA lurkers who look for signs of conference-envy in Belt members, there was this gem from the article:

UAB fell by 31 percent to 10,548 -- the second-largest decline this year by percentage -- and ranked next-to-last among FBS schools.

Texas St went down without the sellout game against Texas Tech. However, attendence increased from last year if you remove the Tech game.

We went down because of the Malzahn factor...as expected.

At least we beat Eastern Michigan? I wouldn't mind if they lied and started announcing tickets distributed rather than actual attendance estimates.

Don't sweat it. Win some games and everything else amazingly falls into place.

I still don't understand why programs like UAB don't (or are unable to) fit their numbers to the 15,000 minimum. It can't be due to a commitment to honesty in reporting.

Yes, this. Surely you're doing that already, right? And if not, why not?

I've heard that Legion Field rent is based on attendance. That's the only reason that makes sense to me.

I know that the City of Birmingham audited the turnstile count last season and the numbers matched UAB's to +/- a few hundred each game. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/...ootba.html

The Cajuns report clicker count. Aggravates the hell out of me, because the reported number is ALWAYS below actual; I don't for the life of me understand EVER under-reporting attendance. Give tickets sold or tickets distributed; no one cares, and it makes your school look better.

The city audited your attendance? That's insane.

Not if the City owns the stadium, and rent is attendanced based.

The numbers were so low not even the city could believe them.

Our last game of the year (on Black Friday) hurt our attendance average bad... We would have averaged over 20k if not for that 1 game.

Next year will be a pretty good year for attendance for us...having Duke at home we should see attendance over 25k for that game. More if Duke is Ranked.

State averaging 15k is so laughable. Only way they have 15k people is if you add up 3 of their home games.

Until teams stop inflating their numbers threads like this are inherently inaccurate.

They need to schedule a home and home with South Alabama.

Just using yall as the example of why tracking and ranking attendance trends is pointless when we know the data is flawed.

Let's worry about our numbers before taking shots at any else. Gast will improve as their record improves. GS had a bad year and if you look at the last 5-10 years it is clearly an anomoly. IF we upset ncst or gt we could have huge numbers next year. Maybe 25k. Otherwise I can see us around 20k like normal.

You think its accurate ANYWHERE? LOL

Hiw many SEC games do we see with obvious empty seats announced as sellouts?

Who cares?
