Yes, but so is everything else in large amounts. The problem isn't that sugar/high fructose corn syrup is the worst thing you can put in your body, its that it is so damn cheap they just add it to everything. Even things that you wouldn't think need sugar have HFC in it (Johnsonville Brats, why the hell does that need corn syrup?).

So you you buy into the pro-biotic imbalance leading to candida scenario?

Yep, and I'll never understand why.
Pretty much everything that is processed and packaged has some form of sugar in it. Makes no sense.
I've also noticed that the levels of sugar in soda has crept up over the years. I remember when Mountain Dew had far more sugar in it than other sodas and it was something like 35 or 38 grams. Now pretty much every soda is over 40.

I'm not drinking many cokes these days, but the video also talks about aspartame being equally detrimental and also contributing to candida.

honestly, I don't even really know what that is.
I avoid artificial sweeteners. I wish I did a better job avoiding all sweets.

Candida is when your body has an overgrowth of yeast and not enough good flora(bacteria) in the gut to keep it in check. You've probably heard about probiotics and stuff like eating yogurt or drinking acidophiles milk after taking antibiotics because they kill off all the good bacteria in the intestines. Candida is supposed to causes skin problems, weight gain, chronic fatigue and a weakened immune system.
Candida will cause the body to crave more and more processed foods, sugars and fried foods as the yeast feeds off the sugar.

No problem. I kinda want to go on a whole foods diet and see if some of my digestive issues improve. I have often suspected this might be a problem for me.

Honestly, I didn't watch the whole video because I had a feeling it was going to turn into a "you need to buy this and start eating only this". So I didn't get to the part about the yeast overgrowth. I'm more just refering to the extra and unneeded calories that are being added to our diets, which I have a feeling has more to do with our health problems than some yeast overgrowth.

The video ends up trying to get you to buy their brand of probiotics. I finally finished watching it. However, the information they give in the video is stuff I have heard for years from many different sources.
I was just wondering if others have any thoughts on the candida scenario.

How much exercise are you getting?
Since I started running, you could set your watch by my lower GI.

Not enough and my diet has gone down hill. Did the running help?

It really has. My diet is nothing special, except I pretty much drink only water. Now that I mention it, hydration may be an issue. Are you getting enough H20?
I run 4 miles every other day. I drink about 3L of water on days I don't run, and 4 on days that I do.

See, I'm not. About five years ago I was in great shape. I let it go. After this new job, I just sit in front of the computer all day and even when I get home.
I don't drink enough water, I eat like crap and have let my exercise go by the waste side.
I am not fat by any means, but need to lose about 10 pounds. I just don't have the energy I used to.
I tried a whole foods diet a couple months ago and my body went into shock. By the third day I was back to chicken fried steak, okra and sweet tea.

RE: Is this Crap?
Yeah, I had a more active job for a long time, and then a few years ago became a desk jockey, and without batting an eye put on 35 lbs.
My blood pressure spiking was what put the fear of God in me. (Hypertension and heart disease run in my family. My father dropped dead of a heart attack at 54. His father did the same at 43).
About two years ago, I got serious and lost the 35 lbs in 4 months. Since then, I've kept about 30 of it off.
Now my cholesterol is good, my triglycerides are good, and I've got the blood pressure of a teenage athlete.

I've got to make some changes. It's going to be tough. I used to smoke and it was easy to stay thin. I quit about four years ago and it's been a lot harder ever since.
Now, I am forced to change my diet.

If it's any consolation, I've got the scale and the lab work to back this up, but the more exercise you get, the more latitude you have with regard to your diet.

You don't have to convince me. I think exercise is our best preventative medicine. I also believe that diet and sound mental state are they other two essential components.
It's just so easy to let it slip. It would help if the entire country got on board with cleaning up our food supply. There is just too much easy crap food all around us.
Glad to hear you turned it around man. It gives me inspiration.
