More possible that a job opened up that gave him an easier route to a better head coaching job for the same amount of money and on a staff he fits in with. Then when it became apparent that the offensive coordinator that just left his staff last year would get the head coaching job at WKU and have much greater success, he decided to cut his losses.

Let's face it, it wasn't looking like he could parlay his head coaching record at UAB into a better job any time soon.

That's true. That's a reflection on UAB. It's also a reflection on Garrick McGee.

And it was because of his (exHCGM) record in year 2. He has no one else to blame but himself. When it came to putting in the hard work to recover or to move on, his character came through.

I recall we started wondering WTF when he kept playing Austin in year 1 after he could barely move.

RE: Tweet from Mackin
I don't doubt that Mackin heard things through the grapevine, but what was probably more obvious was the lack of hirings for new staff by McGee. Also that McGee only hired seemed to hire friends and couldn't evaluate a coaching candidate unless he already knew him. I understand having a few people on the staff that you have worked with before, but with so many it showed either that was a skill he was lacking (and a extremely important skill as a head coach) or that he like Callaway was susceptible to being overly loyal to coaching friends.
