Thanks, Rice.
You just made a complete joke of Conference USA football.

Were they really the best we had to offer?

Yep. C-USA is just as bad in football as it is in basketball. The only difference is UAB isn't competitive in football.

Marshall and ECU played well in their bowl games..........Rice did stink it up though.

RE: Thanks, Rice.
Rice scored first. Unfortunately, that was their only score. Rice had 7 first downs compared to MSU's 27.

Total yards were 145 to 533.

RE: Thanks, Rice.
Keep in mind that the MS State coach had something to prove since he has been a disappointment for the last few years with little success in conference play. He was considered by some to be in danger of losing his job this year and may still be on the "hot seat" for 2014.

Also, according to the Delta Cost Project (quoted by Jon Solomon in the NEWS), the (#1) SEC median school outspends the median school in the #2 conference (Big 12) by over $35,000 annually per athlete at $165,000.(UA and AU spent about $200,000 EACH per athlete in 2011, the latest year in the data). I imagine Rice was closer to the C-USA median of about $59,000 per athlete per year. That could explain the difference in the capability of the teams as wealthier schools bring in the better rated players - high school as well as JUCO.

RE: Thanks, Rice.
Looking at the plethora of lop sided scores between BCS top teams and the rest of the lesser financially blessed teams, the MS State victory over Rice was just one more piece of evidence of how out of balance the collegiate football world is today. If relevance to the NC Bowl game is the measure, then about 8 of the top teams have a real shot at playing for the NC each year.

As those 8 narrow the field by eventually losing a game, the field narrows to the 2 who are chosen at the top. Last year the only perfect record team was Notre Dame. This year it is Florida State. Auburn defeated the other chosen team, Alabama,by a last second score and is their opponent. ALL other teams are only some degree of irrelevance different from the rest of D1 teams.Next year 4 will be "the chosen" instead of just two, but I doubt the change of the top 8 will be noticeable..

Silly old person. The SEC excels, not because of the REPORTED amount they spend per athlete, but because of the UNREPORTED amount spent per athlete.

This thread has glass house written all over it.

Maybe we should win more than 2 games before busting Rice's chops for stinking up their bowl game.

You can only accurately measure and thereby compare what is publicly reported, the rest is conjecture based on suspicion (though the suspicion is probably well founded). Did QB Mullins change from UAB to USM because of "facilities" or were we outbid? Did AU outbid MS State for Cam Newton or did he just like "the Plains" better? Every year hundreds of athletes make a choice of school. How many of the best of them get to consider "bids" - especially when the school is far from home?

RE: Thanks, Rice.
I believe that both Marshall and ECU are better teams than Rice, just weren't the champions of the league. Rice was better than the Herd on December 7 without a doubt and they earned the chance to play in the Liberty Bowl. Hopefully North Texas can earn C-USA some form of respect back tomorrow against UNLV. I just hate that Rice had to get dominated by an SEC team. Bammers and Barners were blowing my phone up mocking C-USA's champ losing to their "worst" bowl team.

Yep. Rice came out playing decently, but they just lost control and it
Went downhill from there. They are still a good team, and I'm not going to knock them for one poor result.

This thread should actually be called "Thanks Stache."

If he RUNS the FN FOOTBALL four times from 1st and goal at the 7 we beat Rice, thus saving them from Liberty Bowl beatdown.

Mississippi State beat Troy 62-7 this year, so I'm not surprised they blowed out a Rice team that narrowly beat us in overtime.
