ESPN may treat us like crap but we are getting exposure.

The Cajuns at the Red Wolves this year drew 767,000 on ESPN2. Looking only at games vs. G5 schools, the most watched CUSA game was the title game drawing 449,000 viewers to ESPN2. The second most watched was MTSU at BYU with 313,000 viewers on ESPNU. More people watched AState vs. Louisiana than the two most watched CUSA G5 games combined.

The FS1 CUSA games drew an average of 116,670 viewers, Troy at AState drew 137,000 viewers on ESPNU and that was the least watched TV game for AState over the past two years. Throw out the FS1 games involving teams leaving for the AAC and CUSA games on FS1 averaged 90,500 viewers.

This does not surprise me. The term prestige is usually used by those who don't really possess it.

Smoke and mirrors will carry one only so far.

Most watched teams out of the MAC, CUSA, and SBC based on TV ratings

1. Northern Illinois
2. Arkansas State
3. Bowling Green
4. Louisiana Lafayette
5. Ball State

Here is your really scary fact of the day:

The 2012 game between FIU and FAU (Their last game as Belt members) was televised on ESPNU, and drew an audience of roughly 250K. This year...the game was put on Fox Sports 1, and 45K tuned in.

More people watched the New Orleans Bowl in person than watched the FIU/FAU game on TV this year.

So much for those big media markets C-USA fans always jaw about. Put a crappy product on the field and the only thing that surprises is just how few people tune in.

I wonder how much ESPN's ratings are boosted by the fact that in pretty much every restaurant or bar they have it blindly tuned to ESPN.

I've been to many restaurants during the middle of March and they've had it tuned to poker on ESPN instead of the NCAA tourney.

Buffalo Wild Wings is the absolute worst about that. That place does not know how to run a TV. They may have 100 in the place, but they are all tuned to something that makes no sense.

Wonder how much those numbers have to due with the fact that FS1 isn't the first place people look when they are looking for sports.

G-5 football is like minor league baseball. No one but the locals know that they even exist. That is just a plain, hard fact of life.

This has been my experience at pretty much every casual dining restaurant (Applebee's, Chilis, O'Charleys, etc.) I've ever been too.

Are we really comparing espn to fs1 numbers?! Of course espn is going to draw more regardless of the teams playing...

Hopefully this comes up during the next TV negotiation. Until then CUSA still has it better. But my guess is they will still look at potential TV sets over ratings.

It also matters that Fox Sports 1 is still relatively new, and as such folks haven't started switching over. Hell, every time I ACTIVELY want to watch that channel I have to look up the number. Not so with ESPN.

Well I didn't bring the comparison to the table. My comparison was ESPN2 Tuesday night vs. ESPN2 on a Saturday and ESPNU on Saturday against a team that warrants its own TV deal.

Are you suggesting that stAte could go independent and support it's own TV deal???

It really is amazing how quickly things deteriorate at the end of football season. It's a shame there isn't another sport that we could get behind and talk about.......
