SBR: Falcons GM interested in locking up Roddy

It won't get better than that any time soon.

I'm a Panthers fan, but even I'll say it doesn't ever get better in the NFL than being division champs with a first-round bye in the playoffs (even if a team goes 16-0 that's essentially the setup they get), so that statement doesn't mean much. Anything can happen in the playoffs. Any team in the league would take repeats of the Falcons' 2012 season every year.

If you meant to say they won't equal that performance anytime soon, I have to disagree. Healthy Jones and White, a decent secondary when healthy, ditto DLine, and a RB with good hands. They won't see the plague of injuries again that they saw this year so add an OLine used to working together and they have a shot.

I think the Saints are due for a downswing due to age, but that offense is still potent. Carolina's defense is just damn nasty and very young so they aren't going anywhere (could you imagine the Panthers right now with Roddy and Julio?). But it's not dreaming to say Roddy will have some decent shots at a ring the next few years.

Based on what? And I would say the Falcons best year was 1999 when they went to the Super Bowl.

Best year with Roddy on the team and even then they had to outscore the other team due to the fact that the defense couldn't stop anyone.

The Falcon's offense could not get any better than last year whereas the defense has several positions that need to be upgraded.

I think the offense can get better. I believe last year the Falcons running game wasn't all that great which is why they went out got Stephen Jackson from St. Louis. And that didn't work out well for Atlanta this year either.

Falcons have to get better players on defense and utilize Stephen Jackson better next year. The first 3/4 of the season they had no running game at all.

OLine was in shambles from the start. Panthers had 9 sacks this past Sunday and could have had 15. They'll be better next year just from being able to block for Jackson and keep Ryan off his backside.

OMG, Atlanta's O-line was turrible! Didn't they give up 10 sacks against Carolina last Sunday?

9...in either case an NFL high for a team this season. And about half were from a DLineman just destroying an OL mano y mano. That said, Carolina has the best front 7 in the league right now so it was as bad a matchup as they could have had.

My apologies. Roddy said in the interview he wanted to play 3 or 4 more years, not 2 or 3.

Roddy looked great when he was healthy. The question is can he stay healthy?

He hadn't missed a game since his freshman year at UAB before this year.

Leg injuries for a wide out are a slippery slope. If I were the Falcon's GM I would offer a 1.5 million a year, 4 year deal with a bunch of incentives. Matt Ryan is a great young QB and he will lean on veteran WRs.
