Edit: Reports are that big name coaches are calling the Lions?!? HUH? 04-jawdrop

They're seeing a team loaded with talent that underachieved. I can see it.

Something you don't see very often. A positive article in the national press about the Lions.

Green Bay Packers
2013 NFC North Champions (again)

We were in Chicago this past weekend, went out to dinner Saturday night. Matt Flynn and three Packer linemen were at next table.

Here's the story of when things really went south for the Fighting Fords.

In fourth game of 1962 Lions are playing at Green Bay. Both are 3-0.

1:46 left in game Lions lead 7-6. Their ball, 3rd and 8 on own 49. Instead of running the ball and punting Pack deep, Milt Plum drops back to pass. Herb Adderley intercepts when Terry Barr slips on his break.

Adderley returns to Lions 18, Paul Hornung kicks winning FG with 36 seconds left.

If Lions had won that game they would've been Western Conference champions because that was the year of the famous Thanksgiving Day massacre - Lions crushed Bart Starr and Packers 26-14. Packers finished 13-1, Lions 11-3 - if they had won first game they would've both been 12-2 and won tie-breaker.

Packers beat Giants 16-7 in NFL championship game, the second of five in Lombardi era.

More so that one play caused a schism between Lions' great defensive unit and the offense. Alex Karras said that as they came off the field they would tell Plum and his offensive mates to "Go out there and hold 'em."

The next year William Clay Ford bought controlling interest in the team and the rest, as they say, is history.

...and another NFC North championship trophy.

Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson, and Ndamukong Suh walk into a bar.

To watch the playoffs.

MAC West BB NFC North Champs.

I'm just happy those three can walk in a bar with working tv's, unlike Green Bay where you have to go to the church basement.

Guess that makes Lions the CMU basketball of NFC North.

You obviously haven't been to Green Bay, DB - there are some SERIOUS watering holes there and surrounding area, including some started by ex-Packers like Fuzzy's (Thurston, the "other" Guard with Jerry Kramer).

I know GB, was JK. My cousin lives there, when I was working in Milwaukee last year I went up a few times. Nice in the summer. People need to learn the value of fiber and no trans fats in their diets though.

Have to store up the fat to help keep warm in the winter.

LOTS of B!G conference linemen. When I feel small it's a rarity, I felt tiny.

Cleveland Browns: Gus Malzahn and James Franklin are on the Browns list of potential candidates per Jason LaCanfora. LaCanfora further notes that the Browns are expected to hire Jim Schwartz as their defensive coordinator regardless of who is hired as head coach.

Why would they hire their DC before HC?

The other thing: why would the Browns leak that before national championship game? Unless Malzahn's people leaked it for salary leverage.

Hmmmmm. NFL is just getting bizarre these days. Talk about $$ messing the game up, here's your example here.

What head coach worth anything would take an NFL job when they are already hiring your coaches?
