IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!
The 2014 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame inductees include someone who was long overdue for the honor. It's too bad the Louisiana Sports Writers Association felt they had to wait until he was dead to vote him in. That hall has credibility now that Coach Beryl Shipley has been included.

Thank you for posting partner.........The reason our program was destroyed by the NCAA instead of probation is the University made the huge mistake of going to court to fight the NCAA...I am glad that the 'old guard" of sports journalists in Louisiana are gone and that Beryl can finally get the honor that he is due.....it is a shame that he passed away a few years ago and did not live to see this.....

Correct, all the racist pricks that kept him out are dead and gone.

RIP Coach Shipley!

RE: IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!!
Shipley wasn't much on defense. Cajun opponents averaged about 102 points per game. Fortunately, we averaged 106.

When asked if an apology was owed for calling the Southland Conference a Mickey Mouse league, Shipley apologized to Mickey Mouse.

Racist pr*cks.

I applaud coach beryl efforts. I felt like he was blackballed but it's nice to see him get the recognition that he deserves.

Well not quite. The Cajuns usually won by a lot more that a low double digits, usually between 20-30 point wins. The teams I watched stole the ball constantly for easy dunks except it had to be lay ups because of Lew Alcindor. Some of you may know that the dunk was outlawed because of Alcindor in that era.

Speaking of coaches who could not coach defense, John Wooden as asked why his teams did not play good defense because the losers usually scored much higher scores than their average. He kind of laughed and said with all humility that the other teams got a lot more opportunities to score after the Bruins scored so often and so fast. This is not a story I read about, but a special I saw where Coach Wooden said pretty much what I just posted.

The Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame is much better. Not only can you sabatoge a vote to make sure that certain people don't win, there is also a rule that says that the person cannot be voted into the Hall of Fame if he cannot be at the banquet to accept the award.

Naturally, the only people who get in are Razorbacks.

He was also asked which team he didn't want to face in the NCAA playoffs and he said, "Southwest Louisiana". Don't know why he didn't care to face us but he got his wish. We were one game away from playing them before Louisville 'upset' us. I'm not one to make excuses for losses, but the refs for that game were suspended for the remainder of the tournament for the absolutely horrendous 'job' they did on us.
