I always refer to it as Valley Girl.

Other than that I don't really have a problem with any of them, maybe NYC/NJ and Boston a bit.

On the flip side, I've always loved British and Southern accents (especially for women).

NYC and NJ are not the same accent. NJ gets a bad rap but compared to NY and Long Island it really isn't that bad. My mom's side of the family are all from Long Island and my wife's sister married onr and moved there and I really can't stand being around them for very long.

'Wiscansin' can be pretty bad.

I had a friend in law school who was from a little town up there. Her accent was terrible but she was a good sport about catching crap for it.

These days whoever is picking the cast for commercials must be saying "I need one black guy, one Chinese woman, one Muslim....etc." There is no way black people would randomly get into so many commercials unless there was some sort of quota/agenda to get them in there because they're in far more commercials than the percentage of the population they represent.

Hell, I'm southern and I can't understand some of the stuff they say. That's more Appalachia talking than Southern talking though.

Any American who cannot understand that accent needs to get out of their little bubble for a while.

I can see folks from other regions not being able to understand a mountain accent right off the bat. That's kind of like asking me to understand a Cajun accent from the get go.

I've never noticed it with McDonalds. Do you think McD is targeting black people? But when I see commercials with Japanese people in them I often wonder if Japanese commercials have whites and blacks in them.

McDonald's goes out of its way to portray white people as the minority.

McDonalds does it often. They even change the background music.

McDonald's adds seem to be aimed at black folks.

It doesn't bother me but it makes me think that perhaps black folks are a key market group for them.

Never even noticed the Chinese woman in the commercials. I just think you notice commercials with black people in them more. Maybe that's why they put the black people in them. How about the subway commercial with the black and white guy fighting over a pastrameeee sandwich that the Latin guy ends up with?
