150/90 the new high blood pressure mark
Raised from 140/90 for people 60+. Multiple studies show the benefits of keeping it below 140, yet the change is being heralded as a good thing by stating the benefits of keeping it under 140 instead of 150 are negligible and this will reduce health care spending.
Me thinks this is the first in many reductions in healthcare, especially for seniors, quality under obamacare.

The Red Cross will accept blood donation from people with 180/100 BP, so I’m guessing 150/90 isn’t
that big of a concern… but I expect the CDC to adjust BMI standards for different races soon.

That's pretty unrelated. High BP isn't from contaminated blood.

This is odd since my general doctor and cardiologist have been trying to keep my BP at 120 and considered 140 borderline high.

The point is, the Red Cross will not take blood from people that they determined to be a
health risk due to high blood pressure, they set that threshold at 180/100 BP.
...but then again, the Red Cross isn’t concerned about the long term affects
of high blood pressure on their donors as much as they just don’t want some
guy slumming over in a chair while he’s being pumped of platelets.

My bad, I assumed The Red Cross policy on the blood pressure of donors was related to hypertension concerns.
Too make my confusion worse, I don’t know how contaminated blood became apart of the discussion.

Red Cross is more concerned with immediate health issues. The 140/90 recommendation is largely targeting long-term health concerns.

These numbers frequently change. I remember when a cholesterol level below 300 was considered acceptable.
Then came the invention of staten drugs and suddenly cholesterol levels above 200 are dangerous.
It's all politics.

The treatment guidelines for high blood pressure have been in place for 30 years. You are right about this being political though.

Fitbud here is the problem..
It used to be the people setting health guidelines did not have the same boss. Now they have the same boss, things that "cut costs" for one executive department an be proposed by the others.
