Rice (Liberty): I am so tired of local radio bashing you/C-USA
Please please please please beat the pups.

Local radio is having fun with lines like: "all five Rice fans will be overrun with Maroon." "State beat the MAC champ, which is comparable if not better to C-USA. So they should be able to handle the Owls." And "after the Dogs put away the Owls, they will complete the season with a winning record, which means a lot going into signing day."

Please spank the pups!!!!!!!

I think this is one of the most important games in awhile for both Rice and C-USA to improve the brand of on national stage. IMO, the Miss St brand/SEC affiliation > actual Miss St team this year. They are beatable and glad we are playing them vs. Vandy (who I think is a better team but worse brand). Have seen a number of ESPN guys and others (Robert Smith, Todd McShay, etc.) pick the Owls. They have great athletes (esp up-front) but we historically play well in bowl games and play well when we have time to prepare. Lots of seniors who really want to win this game..not going to Memphis for a party and celebration of the season... I think many want to see this game for Rice like TCU's game was against USC in the 98 Sun Bowl. Was a coming out party for the TCU program to beat a 'name' school in a bowl game. The program was obviously able to build on that momentum. Miss St brand not quite the USC brand but it is recognized as a mainstay SEC program.

As a side, I will say the Miss St. fans have been great. Nowhere near the smack talking and arrogance of the Marshall fans (minority of them..not majority) or another SEC school we played based in Texas. They have been civil, informative, and not like the radio show(s) you are describing.

I picked C-USA to finish 4-2 in this year's bowl, but this wasn't one of the wins. Miss State struggled, but they're still good, and a dangerous team. Should be an interesting game.

MSU is beatable - I think we are 2-2 against them in our last 4 and one went into OT that we lost. You are not playing Bama, Auburn or LSU.

It'll be interesting to hear their spin about how the 6-7 record won't affect recruiting negatively.

Seriously, we are used to overconfident fan bases. They all seem to think we are the Rice of the 1980's. They think we recruit at the library.

I just hope the overconfidence extends to the team.

The folks from Starkville seem to suffer from the same disease as Gamecock fans.....Alabama mouths, Vanderbilt trophy case.

I hate State fans.

We naturally have a tougher schedule than anyone cause we play LSU, Bama, and Auburn every year, so we need to play DeVry, ITT, and the School for the Blind twice a season so our guys can see a bowl game.

Misery State is very beatable. They can't really move the ball consistently, the only thing with them is NOBODY thought they'd be bowl eligible, and while the perception is they're just playing Rice, they'll be up because they're happy to be in a bowl.
Should be a great game that's well attended, unless Houston/Vandy. Vandy sold its' allotment of 10K tickets, which is about how many actual paying Vandy fans they have at games.
