"UAB: Sources tell us that Garrick McGee let "his entire defensive staff go" last night. Will update..."

Edit: No verification of this as of yet.

Matt says he heard 3 of the staff members let go.

Not fun to see but it was needed. I wonder if there will be more money for him to go after proven assistants.

Come on now! We have no conspiracy theories here. No one would intentionally hamstring us by limiting the pay of assistant coaches.

I hate to see anyone lose their job, and hope they land on their feet somewhere, and can make a go of if wherever they land, but it can't be argued that a change didn't need to be made.

Especially losing it this time of year. However, I guess that those in the college football ranks are used to job turnover at the holidays.

Would be the case if new DC hired. They'd want their own people...

If the rumors are accurate we could make a hire we all could get behind fast.

We're all in wait and see mode, but it had to happen.

Also, I'd like to give FAU's DC a consideration. They played tough, physical defense and Pelini is no longer there - they've hired a new coach who is defensive guy with his own ideas. He interviewed with FIU last week...

If we get who Mcgee is after everyone should be happy. 4 coaches gone I think.

From Coaching Search:

UAB: Despite a report that has surfaced on another website, Garrick McGee has not dismissed his entire defensive staff. As CoachingSearch.com reported a couple of weeks ago, McGee will hire a new defensive coordinator who will be allowed to bring one assistant with him. Defensive line coach Kevin Peoples and defensive backs coach Brandon Sharpe remain with the staff.

See I think that is inaccurate as well. the truth is somewhere in the middle IMHO. I think the new DC will be allowed to bring in two or three.

Only a good head coach would recognize where the teams weakness is and make immediate moves at the end of the season to correct that weakness.

Way to go, Coach McGee

At least 3 have been let go,,,,,........at least that is the word going around Southside. You are correct. Thank goodness Coach Peoples is still here.

So I guess we can assume Williams and Johnson were let go? Hate to hear it, but like it was stated earlier that's the nature of it. Hope whoever was released finds somewhere to land.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out.
