UCF announces initial Fiesta Bowl ticket sales
This info has finally been released. Hope it's okay that I started a new thread - the other one devolved into snark so quickly and then got moved to Smack Talk, so I wasn't sure anyone like myself who was simply looking for the information was even bothering to check there any longer.

Difficult due to distance and competing with lower prices. If UCF wanted to be pro active it should discount their tickets so that fans traveling there would buy them from UCF and sell more thru their site

No, unfortunately not so good. But I'm not really shocked. Is it awful of me to personally resent NIU for losing, lol?

Still have time...hopefully the in school sales will pick up...darn shame that it is much more prudent to by it away from the school allotments...

Put your money where your mouth is UCF. If you're so Big 12 worthy, now is the time to prove it. There aren't any excuses.

Agreed, I lost what little respect I had for UCFAA. A discount for boosters would of shorten the gap btw market (stub hub) and retail market for tickets.

It's a difficult sell. Much like if we would of been picked to go to the Pinstripe, just travel/hotel alone is going to be well over $1,000.

That doesn't help much because even though the media reports the obligation in terms of tickets sold, the obligation is really to sell a certain dollar amount of tickets. So if UCF takes a $199 face-value ticket and sells it for $100, it still owes the Fiesta Bowl $99 more.

It's not even 5k sold, because that number includes the tickets bought by the university for the team and band. Probably more like 4600 or so.

Yes but they will be bake to get more people to buy them from them than outside sources and they can use the AAC money to help them pay for it.

Example they have sold 5000 at around 200, but what if they could have sold 7000 for 150 and still owe the Fiesta the same money

Not sure how much that even helps. The issue is the general admission tickets are not just cheaper: they are BETTER.

RE: UCF announces initial Fiesta Bowl ticket sales
5000 doesn't sound great, but considering UConn's numbers and Pitt selling 2000-2500 (http://triblive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/spo...nTnTkjHO), I'm not terribly concerned about the effect on our reputation of traveling to bowls. We still sold close to 15k for the Liberty Bowl in 2007 and like 12k in 2010. If we've doubled up what Pitt, an old school with FB tradition, lots of alumni, and plenty of money did, then that's not too shabby.

I honestly don't think there's 17,000 seats on the airlines around that time period to get to Phoenix or anywhere near there. The logistics of traveling at a peak holiday period for that many people is ridiculous. The one thing the university could have done would have been to have chartered planes and sold tickets at cost to make it more affordable (unlike what the official travel agency did and offer really $$$ packages).

It is what it is. Once the distance to a bowl exceeds an 8 hour drive, the percentage of fans from that school traveling to the bowl will drop dramatically. Once a drive tops 8 hours, it basically becomes a plane flight bowl. That vastly increases the expense and decreases the affordability of the trip for a larger percentage of a schools fan base.

UCF to the Fiesta is brutal….they would have done much much much better in the Orange or even Sugar.

RE: UCF announces initial Fiesta Bowl ticket sales
I know a lot of people are licking their chops to slam UCF for tickets sales, but this trip is brutal. $700-900 flights just aren't that doable for many. The Orange would have been no problem and UCF said that the Sugar had the same amount of pre-orders. UCF would have easily sold out the Sugar allotment, especially playing Bama. So many fans want to go to the fiesta but can't afford it. UCF doesn't have that older wide spread alumni base or a rich one, for what it's worth. For Cougar King, if it'd make you feel better, if it were a requirement to join a P5 conference to have a wealthy alumni base, UCF is screwed. Then again, if that were the case, SMU and Tulane would be in the SEC.

RE: UCF announces initial Fiesta Bowl ticket sales
It's not the ticket prices that hurt, it's the $800 airline tickets. I bought four tickets, donated two to the military. I'm fortunate I can do that, most can't.
