"…when I came here the enrollment was 3600 and 400 men. And some of those men still had trouble getting a date…"

RE: Great Unlce Ron interview
Uncle Ron was the best, period!!! In spring 1980, I lived off campus and drove to D Hall for a Saturday meal (imagine being able to park right up to it) in my "new to me" Fiat that had a really good sound system. I had some tunes going, and was standing with a couple of friends listening and Uncle Ron happened to walk by. He commented on how good it sounded, and then asked how did the car drive. I told him it drove great, and he then said "lets go"!! So, with Uncle Ron riding shotgun, we drove around upper campus!! I will never forget that!!! I was a real bada$$ driving the JMU President around in my car!!!

All the stories about Carrier are so awesome because they never need to be embellished. They broke the mold when they made him.

RE: Great Unlce Ron interview
I sent Ron a thank you card a few months ago...during college he tipped the scale to get my brother and i one year scholarships when our fam biz was broke and mother was passing...it was a lifesaver....anyhow, couple weeks ago a handwritten response showed up w an invitation to "please come see us"...graduated 20 years ago....they really broke the mold w that man.

RE: Great Unlce Ron interview
He was definitely the students president. He was a visionary. He didn't take "no" for an answer. I am proud to have been able to shake his hand upon my graduation. Yes, bcp, he tipped the scale for my family as well. My brother had made fantastic grades and was very active in high school, yet for some reason he was rejected. A phone call to a friend of Ron's and a second letter arrived in our mail saying there had been an oversight...my brother was a JMU freshman that fall.
