I have family members and friends that have attended tea party functions and supported tea party candidates. I don't consider them any more racist than any other segment of society. I just disagree with their political views.

I'm a Tea Partier. Race has nothing to do with what we want. We just want the federal government to tax and spend less. A balanced budget amendment would be nice.
But the left cannot successfully win on our issues, so they just call us racists. And half of the American public believes it.
