Dear fbgab,
So, if Western were to sign its 27 or 28 verbals, they (Western) would have to get rid of approximately thirty players by next August. That doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Excuse me for being dense, but I just don't see that.
I just checked your roster. 106. Subtract 23 seniors equals 83 players. Add 27 in the fall and you have 110. Well over the 85 scholarship limits.

Ken,

Every football is allowed 105 players to start fall camp, but no more than 85 on scholarship. Once class is in session, a school can virtually have unlimited walk ons join the team. What that means at any given time there are 20+ guys on the roster that are not on scholarship. Looking only at the roster gives you no idea how many are scholarship guys.

In WMUs situation I'm of the understanding the had less than 85 scholarship guys by the last game. So for them to bring in 25-30 schools be pretty easy. Couple that with 7 players who have left the team since the end of the season.

Zero inside information, but often staffs get rounded out by the end if the AFCA clinic, which is mid January.

Makes sense.

One doesn't need a full staff this time of year.

Normally when there is a head coaching change a couple holders overs will run the day to day and recruiting.

The notion of hiring a new coach on December 1 and new assistants Dec 8 and have full recruiting visit weekends in December is probably not how the real world works. (the real world and fan forums have different realities).

I'm not sure but he has one tough job of getting a young family re-situated from Iowa to Michigan.

I really feel for these coaches who need to uproot families, esp. those with young children.

As have been posted, I believe he is evaluating current and possible hires for assistant coach positions.

Any assistant coaches who will be holdovers can do the recruiting work.

I think everyone hopes and expects that Hart will be retained and do a lot of the recruiting in MI and some other parts of the Midwest.

Quite frankly, I think most here feel that if Hart gets an outsized role in recruiting that is a good thing.

I think we've seen recruiting classes where most of the recruits were recruited be a few strong recruiters.

For Christmas, I want Hosey back (EMU verbal who switched to UB).
