Is it all that surprising that nobody on the east coast cares about what happens in the P12? They go to the Rose Bowl to play the B1G champion and none of the other conferences ever have a chance at playing there, unless some astronomical happenstance comes to pass. Also, most of their games play late, when most of the east coast is getting ready for bed.

The only numbers that matter for the P12 are those on the west coast, where they do very well. So while their numbers aren't very high nationwide, their numbers in the major west coast markets are as good as any, and better than most.
