Forgive us for being skeptics at this point. Everything has always worked out just the way we planned in the past.

What would be the likely time lag between BOT approval for some kind of facility in Feb. and actual ground breaking to start construction? UAB is about 2 decades late as it is, but there is no time like the present that we can work in..

+ gazillion. To me, this is the most glaring facilities issue. Wouldn't it be pretty cheap to lay down fake turf and put in better water drainage stuff? The fact that we can't get that done is depressing.

Relative to building actual buildings is what I meant.

Even Legion Field got some field turf a few years ago. That's what scared soccer away.

No not everything has worked the way we wanted it. I would like to be building a stadium right now complete with football offices and locker rooms.

To be fair some things have. Not on the scale of 60+ million but some much needed athletic improvements have been implemented.

Weight Room
Training Room - actually one of the finest in the country.
Academic Center for Student Athletes
New Softball Field
New batting cages
New basketball men's and women's locker rooms.
Video upgrades to Bartow and Young Field
New basketball floor
New lower level seats for Bartow.

So let's let them come finish implementing their plan before we get out the pitch forks. I think you will see some football specific items, more Bartow improvements including stained concrete floors, as well as improvements to Soccer and some other Olympic sports. Possibly more improvements to

Also on the horizon a fundraising campaign dedicated solely to football to assist in some of these improvements.

If nothing is done I will be happy to lead the angry mob.

My memory of those changes is that the concrete base and drainage system for the original "turf" was sufficient to the needs of the "prescription (real grass) turf" put in for Olympic Soccer so when they decided to go back to artificial turf, the greatest part of the expense of the change was already in place.

To start from scratch for any artificial turf UAB practice field, that concrete base would have to be installed first along with the drainage system.

That and the stupidity of Bernard Kincaid. The World Cup was knocking on Birmingham's door to host some games here and he simply refused to let them in.

I have serious doubts about this. I assume you speak of the women's World Cup?
(I feel guilty for participating in the derail)

I'm assuming he meant qualifiers.

If recalling correct, it was for qualifying rounds, when Kincaid did what he did best, which is ruin everything for everyone, I'll see if I can find the link to that story and share it here, but I'm pretty sure it was for the men's qualifying rounds. I would have attended at least one or two of those games had they come here. I'm sure the games as a whole would have been well-attended were it not for that moronic excuse for a mayor.
