Hopefully with greater depth both teams will be much more at full capacity at that time of year in the future.

Swope and McKinnon are two huge losses. Call it an excuse, but losing you best player hurts.

It sure will be nice (in a few years) to be able to replace an injured player with another well-recruited scholarship player.

The guy whose 53-yard run set up the winning score against Florida was a former walk-on and the No.2 guy for pretty much the entire season. It's not even as though he was an overlooked good player from a football factory HS before he came to Southern. Hell, I cover GA high school sports for a living and had barely heard of William Banks' school - much less him - when he popped up on the GSU roster.

Injuries will always suck, but I imagine they'll suck far less when your depth chart's second or third guy up is on scholarship and was recruited by a handful of other schools rather than some guy who had a good high school career and made the college team mostly out of a willingness to show up for every practice and workout without having a scholarship pay for it.

+3 Rep Points to you. Would imagine what you say is exactly correct. The ability to bring in a back up that is better than the walk ons you would previously have to bring in should make teams stronger and harder to beat than has happened previously. Even more important than any increase in quality players for the starters.

App hasn't been relevant in years. Congrats to beating GSU a couple of times.

How about neither of us missing our big skill players, maybe that would be more applicable.

I'm too lazy to do the research but it seems we always struggle to score in Boone but light up the board in Paulson - sans 2010 and dark years of van goober and hatch.

The point being, I think we can recruit at the same level as GT as we don't have some the academic requirements they do, so on some occasions better. Time will tell.

Actually I think Hatcher's PPG might be higher than Monken's at this point.

You are on crack if you think you're recruiting ACC talent to Statesboro. You'll have a handful of players in any given class, but you're setting yourself up for disappointment if you really believe you're going to recruit at the same level as Tech.

College football fans discussing recruits at GT:
"You know, Georgia Tech just can't get the same level of athletes as the rest of the big boys. That gimmicky offense they run really keeps any big time players from going there. It's definitely hurting their recruiting."

Georgia Southern fans mention they can recruit at the same level (but not necessarily implying they'll have better athletes):
"Get out of here with that trash, you can never get ACC caliber athletes."

What about the fact in the last two years we will have put four players in the NFL, two of which are starters? GT can't match that. Does the NFL carry any relevancy to talent level in your world?

And that is recruiting as a FCS school. Let's see what happens over the next few years as we improve facilities and recruit as a FBS school. I can't wait to take nc st to the woodshed on August 30.

RE: Triple Option Question For Georgia Southern & Arkansas State Fans
I got into a debate about this with a buddy who went to both GS (undergrad) and GT (grad). I said GS would be able to compete for atheletes against them and that their higher standards would limit them in the recruiting battle. He just said,"we'll send the dumb ones down to you". That started another debate about how he wasn't true blue, but I digress.

The point is that they do have better prestige, funding, and conference. BUT they are more limited in the recruits because of their high academic standards that they are forced to meet due to NCAA APR guidelines. Unless they pull a UNC and just make up a class and give each player the needed grade to meet requirements 03-lmfao

I don't want "dumb" atheletes/students, but odds are we aren't really looking to get someone who wants to be an engineer either. The differences between the colleges may sometimes be in GS's favor. Urban vs rural, engineering vs anything else GS can offer, School of mostly guys vs School with some of the prettiest women around. They come to the campus and they will be influenced.

Comparing GT to GS is like comparing Apples to Oranges. You just really can't lump the two into the same category. Personally I would compare GS more with Navy. We certainly should be able to compete with a school on Navy's level in recruiting so in theory we also should be able to have at least the same level of success that Navy has enjoyed.

agreed. I imagine that the recruiting and level of play over the next few years will fall between Navy and GT. But it is possible for GS to surpass GT as the #2 school in Ga. (no I'm not on crack, just a long term goal that GS should strive for).

what is wrong with my statement? Did I reveal some secret weapon in recruiting? GS does have a large percentage of female students and a lot of them are very pretty. Not saying other colleges don't have nice girls, but GT is not known for a plethera of female students.

Pot and Kettle. Most SBC schools are in the south and that kinda talk applies to all of us then. More so for those backwoods hill-billies and swamp people 03-nutkick 05-stirthepot

Who are the 4? Wilcox and Eubanks are starters, I don't know of anyone else playing right now. If you're referring to McKinnon and Westbrooks, don't count your chickens on them quite yet since they're not in the NFL yet. Not saying they won't play, just don't use them as an example when they're not there yet.

Scott is not on a team and was on a practice team only. Russell is practice team at most right now if he hasn't been cut as well.
