So, I have stayed away since the loss not wanting to read everyones overreactions and predictions of future doom.

We are fans...we want to see our team succeed and it hurt when our very high expectations vanished in one evening.

That said, I have been a fan for 30 years During NIU ill fated attempt as a major independent, the Big West, the 23 game losing streak, and all of the highs we have seen since 2000. 15 years ago this all seemed impossible.

But in the end the great times I have had over the last 30 years did not have to do with just the big wins...its the people I go with, the times spent with good friends and family.

My son said on the drive home yesterday, "Dad I will be a Huskie fan for life no matter where I go to college"

Meeting up with good friends in Miami, tailgating together for the biggest game NIU would play.

2 years ago my Dad, my son and I attended the Friday after Thanksgiving game...3 generations cheering on the Huskies.

20 family members at West Point to watch NIU take on the Cadets in 1992.

I have maintained some friendships and renewed some older ones attending Huskie games.

30 years for me...through all the wins and all the losses, the elation and heartbreak I would not trade one minute of any of it.

We are all Huskie fans and will be for the rest of our lives. We just deal with failure differently.

Great post BobL, I know that most huskie fans feel the say way. In life all people ask for is opportunity. NIU had it Friday night and was unable to seize it. This will stay with the players for the rest of their lives, but it doesn't change the fact that the NIU ftbll program has come a long way! In the end its just a game, its not life or death, but it does suck!

But what about the play calling? What about the defense? ... Jk.

Great post. I have to hand it to you. Most of my friends and I quit going to games in the late 80's and didn't jump back on the band wagon until 2003. I never went through all the hard times. These last 10 years have to be so much sweeter for you guys that actually followed the team in the lean years. Congrats. 04-cheers

I dont think There's anything wrong with complaining about the defense and the play calling (I'm still doing it). Doesn't mean we don't support our guys or coaches. We didn't do a very good job Friday and we were outsmarted and it hurts considering what was at stake.

We should also consider that it's hurting our players and coaches much more than it is hurting us. Lets finish strong in the bowl game!!!!

Great comments!

I do think that the general thoughts is that we will have a solid team next year, not hearing much gloom at all. The sad part was the way they lost, getting destroyed in all phases really was upsetting to all of us. Here's to 2014 and future NIU success.

remember When we beat South Florida in Huskie stadium...they were upset saying that they were the much better team..I loved it
How about Okla State and Kansas State in Huskie stadium...disappointing crowds but it was a thrill to have those two team come to DeKalb
Maybe Sean can upgrade our home schedule

San Jose bowl in the rain beating Troy...Wolfe showing what he would later
be for us,(Harris injured)

San Diego....great place for a bowl game....
Shreveport....one return killed us

Let's keep it going......

One final note...my son, now 16 has met many of the players and coaches over the years...his highlights being GW, Free, English, Novak..but his favorite player was always Michael Turner..his first NIU jersey was a Turner Jersey. Early in the game friday I hear my son saying Michael Turner, Michael Tuner...i turn to the aisle and there he is. Michael stops says hi to my son and gives him a high 5. Made his night! Its those moments that I will always be thankful for.
