Rozner: Great article..sums up my emotions
http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20131...712079817/

excerpt:

It's why so many of us have an emotional attachment to Northern, and it's why seeing it end the way it did Friday was so painful.

Simply put, it was fun to matter, and what a great run it's been.

Still, I am thankful for the memories and proud of NIU. It's a terrific and underrated school that offers a wonderful education. It is filled with special people who go on to do special things.

Lynch should be proud, too, whether he gets to New York or not, and the Huskies should be proud of the 24-3 run we've witnessed the last two years, even though it ended short of a second straight BCS berth.

Regardless of the pundits, who will hate and mock while adoring the ugliness that is often at the forefront of college sports, I'm proud of what NIU stands for and what it remains.

One defeat can't change that.

Yeah, great article.

"NIU has been relevant on the national college football scene, a ridiculous and guilty pleasure, and an opportunity to shine a light on a school that matters very much to those of us who appreciate the opportunity NIU gave us."

That hit home for me.

That's why I appreciate the haters, as annoying as they can be. They don't want to bother with NIU or hear about NIU...they just want the "nobodies" to go away.

But the nobodies crashed the party, and nearly did it twice. It's awfully fun to crash parties. And it's why I want Lynch in New York. Say NIU was good, add all the qualifiers you want...but say they are good and watch me smile at the face you make when you do, haters.

NIU is a place where the kids that maybe don't have the "pedigree" to become big time get their chance...

From the son a middle class family (and the grandson of working class families), I OWE so much to my time at NIU... I always had the heart and intelligence to be successful but NIU allowed me the platform..

I'm 34..and have already reached so many of my dreams and goals..

Thank you NIU!!!!04-rock04-cheers04-bow

When I read sh*t like the quote below, it makes me want to throw up.

(12-07-2013 01:28 AM)niudos Wrote:  The loss by NIU probably is the start of the downfall of the NIU program, Carey and the Mac. The best team in the Mac will not be taken seriously for a long time. It is the worst day in the history of NIU Athletics!

The column by Barry Rozner, one of the very best NIU alums and fans, sums up why we should be nothing but proud of our Huskies. There's a bowl game to be played and a chance at a 13-1 record, the best season in our FBS football history.

PROUD TO BE A HUSKIE! FORWARD, TOGETHER FORWARD!

BobL thanks for posting this...and thanks to Barry Rozner for this article. He put into words my thoughts and feelings about NIU. I attended back in the 60's when NIU was just starting to grow. I really enjoyed my 4 yrs and I'll support and promote the athletic programs.
I was frustrated and upset after Friday night's game, but then I stepped back and realized how far we have come and what has been accomplished over the past 10-12 yrs.
