Offensive Play Calling
I know that our defense lost the game last night, I get that but I have another bone to pick. I think that our offensive coordinator did not call a very good game. I was watching Stingily dominate on one drive in the second half and then mysteriously they stopped giving him the ball. They did not use him much early in the game either. You can't just keep expecting one player to win the game for you when you have other weapons. I suspect that Cole rather Carey is calling the offensive plays and IMO Carey calls a better game than Cole.
I was reminded of the NIU Akron game when we overused Wolfe to the point that he was exhausted and could not get a first down to run the clock out late in the game.
Currently watching tOSU and we should use Stingily the way that they use Carlos Hyde.

RE: Offensive Play Calling
28 pass attempts for Lynch in the first half. Zero carries for Spencer. Three first half carries for Stingily. Before the 58 yard field goal we threw the ball on three consecutive plays, losing yardage in the process...Lynch went 3/8 for 18 yards on that drive.
There were a lot more in addition to what you posted as well.

RE: Offensive Play Calling
The 58 yard field goal attempt was a dumb call too but that one was on Carey.
Despite my whining I do like Rod Carey and I think that we are fortunate to have him as our HC

Offensive Play Calling
Play calling has been questionable all year, Ball St. when they were on the goal line they kept running the same damn lynch sweep. It worked the first time but not the next two times. They should have punched it in with Stingley.
Go NIU!

3rd quarter, 3rd and 8 down 11 in BGSU's territory and they call a QB run up the middle. Another bad call.

Same drive that has been discussed with Cam suddenly disappearing. He had 36 yards on three straight carries. Then Lynch run, incomplete pass, Lynch run, Sims missed kick. Brutal. Made FG there makes it an eight point game. Sad that Sims career is always going to be tarnished by him tanking down the end of this season.

That drive pissed off everyone around me in Ford Field. Everyone was very confused on that play calling.

...didn't he hit two field goals from 50+ yards last night?

Perhaps he can make some big kicks in the Bowl game. He has had a nice career at NIU and came up big in two MAC Championship games.

He did make from 51 and 45. He was still bad in the most important games of the season. 6/13 in the final four games.

My bad.
I dunno, I don't think I was as hard on him as other fans. He hit a rough patch for sure but he was still a good kicker for us and won us several games and I don't think he lost us any.

I saw on Phil Horvath's twitter mentioning we were completely out coached. I bet I could find more former players with the same consensus
Go NIU!

Hate to agree with Horvath, but I think it's true. I don't know why soooo many times this year I felt like the coaches were holding us back. The defense more so than the offense, but both.
Eg., the lack of use of Stingley throughout a game, the playing sooooo loose on defense. I think our players are better than that. It smacked of playing scared. And I don;t think we had reason to play scared in any game this year.
To be clear, I don't know that we need to change coordinators, but I think our coordinators need to change attitude. Stop being predictable and stubborn on offense, and stop being only very seldomly selectively aggressive on defense. We are better than that. Get after it on every play. If we win the toss, take the ball and ram it down their throats. Take the lead and build on it. Stop this, "we defer" crap. Our best unit was our offense this year. Why keep it off the field???????
Ok, I'm done.
