For all the thinking about what each game means to the conference, and the money on the line, and the press coverage, and awards, it all comes down to playing the game, and a bunch of players winning.

Great game, Bowling Green

exactly. well said. Congrats again, BG! don't let anyone take anything away from you for this. you deserve this title.

Congratulations Bowling Green and a VERY DESERVING Dave Clawson. His last stop pre BGSU he was treated like pure crap, and has successfully managed to get it going there. I hope he doesn't leave for Wake Forest.
Great win.

Congrats Bowling Green! 04-cheers

I know the Wake Forest people around here are clamoring for the Ball State coach (because of the North Carolina ties) but this win might make your coach the new favorite, unfortunately.

It should make people hate the D1A post season environment when a team from your own conference plays a great game and all you can think of is ....it cost us $$$$.

Great run by NIU, congrats on a great season, again. BG turned a corner after losing two close games in mid season. Now I'm just hoping Lembo gets picked over Clawson for the Wake job. sorry BSU fans.

Not that it is any consolation to you, but you have succinctly and accurately expressed my exact thoughts on the matter. No one blames BG for playing lights out and they certainly deserve congratulations on a very big yet surprisingly easy win but anyone who thinks that the MAC was not a big loser tonight hasn't thought this situation thru too carefully IMHO.

Congrats to BG for a great game and game plan. I was mighty impressed.

Eh, the MAC lost the loot, but I felt alright seeing the underdog win tonight. We might as well slap another big OOC road game into a future schedule somewhere to make up for "lost" cash.

I guess in a more selfishly self-centered way... regardless of who won tonight, my team was 1-11 this season and is a light year away from sniffing Ford Field. So us Bronco fans have larger issues to contend with than whether a MAC team appears in a New Years Day Bowl. So it's probably a reason why I'm not as "bothered" by NIU's loss as I thought I'd be.

Trust me, as an NIU fan i used to get really stressed out over losses. Especially because we always lost them near the end of the game (i.e. 2005 and 2010 MAC Championships, Minnesota back in 2008 ?, Maryland in 2004, etc.). But as i've gotten older i've stepped back a lot because it was not good to be so upset over it.

Forget about the money, which, hey it sounds nice, but its not like it goes to the players or me, personally. But prestige-wise, if that's what NIU's D brought to face Oklahoma State, that would have been a true disaster.

BG was awesome tonight and deserves their 11th MAC Crown.

They kept zooming in on Lynch on the sidelines a lot and he looked sick as a dog. I could tell from the press conference that he was sick (he was sniffling after every question he answered and you could hear it in his voice) but he was so pale and his eyes were puffy tonight you could tell he was not well.

But he doesn't play defense. He didn't give up 47 pts.

True, but I believe BGSU scored off some of the turnovers.

It was a great win for BG tonight. Congrats to the Falcons. They showed up NIU's defense like Ball State and Toledo should have but didn't. They got the job done. I would love to have seen BG and Ball State play each other this year. That could have been a great game.

RE: 2013 MAC Championship NIU vs. Bowling Green - Game Thread
I wanted NIU to win for the money, but honestly I am not upset about it. Prestige, money, exposure... the MAC wins this when some of the bottom teams start to pick it up from the bottom. For an example, I commend Akron on their season. 5-7 is not a good season, but for them and the conference it was really needed. Too bad they couldn't drop Michigan.

When EMU, Miami, Umass, and Western Michigan up their games, this conference will look better. Maybe I'm delusional, but Western Michigan has a bright future ahead if they continue to recruit, Miami looks like it has a good coach coming. Umass probably needs a little more time and we'll have to wait to see what happens to EMU in their coaching search. It is a program that can win; they did have a .500 season a couple of years ago. (Yes, I know, 2 FCS teams but it was a start.)

Oh, without a doubt it was our defense that lost us the game. Lynch could have had a great game and we would have still lost.

I was just saying he did not look well out there tonight but he still toughed it out.

It's Ball State circa 2008 redux. Clawson will walk and BG will get blown out its bowl game.

And an honest number.

Congrats BG. While it stinks to lose out on the money, I'm hoping the MAC can win the majority of our bowl match ups this year.
