POP QUIZ!!
Which two of UAB's three major sports has the most recently added modern FACILITIES? Which of the three has garnered the least satisfactory record so far this school year? What a coincidence!!!
Or play like Sesame Street -- "Which of these is NOT like the others?"

Umm... last time I checked, Oregon is in the PAC12. We beat Oregon in 2000 on their home court in the first round of the NCAA tourney.

Quite remarkable what Norton has been able to do with the team so far.
I would guess we were nowhere near the top in defense last year.

Been preaching that "sermon" for years, not just here. Might as well just , you can lead a horse to water, but.... Women's team has been up to this season, playing some very entertaining basketball, either last season or the one before, they were ranked in the top 10 nationally in team defense. They have the best front line players I've seen in a UAB uniform in the last 3 years with Dy'man Webb, Brittney Winborne, & Kayla Anderson. They all played "light's out" last night against Arizona, and Karisma Chapman took it to them as well. Run back to the "Pac" & tell that, Wildcats! Really though, great game, Arizona walked UAB down in the 2nd half from 15 to take a brief lead, to the Blazers credit, they didn't fall apart, got the lead back and held it this time. They brought a decent sized group of supporters, if I may say so, can't remember a time when I'd seen more than Arizona brought to Bartow for a Women's game. Maybe Vanderbilt (Dec. 30) will match or better it. I plan on being there to find out, just the same.

I don't know about last year...but Audra Smith's teams were widely known for their defense. It was the offense that led to letdowns.

I'm not expecting another 6' 8" player like Griner of Baylor, but do we have a good height center this year or among incoming recruits? Smith took the one she recruited to Clemson with her.

Incoming recruits all guards. All of our "bigs" are sophomores and really rebound well. I heard Karisma Chapman say they practice rebounds against guys and that's why they rebound so well...

I have a different game you can play - "Which of these posts is not like the others?"

To change the subject back to what this thread is actually about, congrats to the WBB players and coaches for a landmark win.

Interesting question. When I think of the part of it that mentions, "the 3 major sports" for UAB, I say, Basketball, Football, and Softball. For me, lately, it's softball that has been enjoying the most success since being granted modern facilities to compete in, women's basketball, in at least 2 of the last 3 seasons, has enjoyed more postseason success than the men have, but since the installment of the new locker room and basketball floor, only one loss has been suffered by a UAB team in Bartow Arena thus far this year, and that was a close loss by the women to Chattanooga (again). But they had a huge win against Arizona a couple of nights ago, and if they defend the homeland against George Mason, High Point and Vanderbilt this month - "Business" may very well pick up by the fans around here for both teams.
The Softball team's transformation over the last 3 seasons speaks for itself. Football? No facilities...no comment...Their "progress" speaks for itself, too.
Basketball, even though early (conference play has yet to kick in) early success this year, is just beginning to signs of revitalization and as for the fan base, we'll soon learn if they're in it for the long haul or just only show up for games like the North Carolina matchup.
