Houston Bummer
Ok, the houston scenario sucked, but so what? Its a bummer because it started out as vs B12 on ny eve with payout >1mil, but now its another bottom bowl. We already have those. Its likely we'll get at least 6 of 8 gator/sun/tire slots. ND is going to be almost unbeatable and since when is Navy ever gauranteed winning six games? How many BE eligible teams have been shut out of bowls?

With 31 or 32 bowls everybody will get to play somewhere.

not a bum
Houston is not a bummer. It offers a chance to do some things better on the bowl front in the future. The questions are will Mike Tranghese get the message and will fanbases that never travel get the message? Houston was a bad destination anyway.

I wouldn't worry about the Meineke Car Care Bowl slot. The Big 12 re-signing with Houston means the Poinsettia Bowl slot stays free and they are going to pick Navy as many times as they can. No eligible Big East team will get shut out of a bowl game.

As a CUSA fan, it is my firm belief that the Houston Bowl was never appropriate for BE just because of the geography. The Houston Bowl did provide a quick fix and an after Xmas Bowl and a BCS opponent. But, in the longer run, it is also my firm belief that BE's long term interests lie with a Florida Bowl....a better reward for its fans, in a recruiting area that BE can tap (unlike Texas recruiting), and a base to build that Florida Bowl into something better...build it into something to match and/or exceed a Meineke Bowl or Houston Bowl. For all these reasons, I think CUSA needs a Florida Bowl also.

no team = no bowl
CUSA would not need a Florida bowl if that conference were to end up no longer having a team in Florida.

If the Big East splits in 2010 and becomes an 12 team all-sports conference by adding Memphis, ECU and UCF (fourth team to be determined) the potential of gaining the Liberty Bowl, the Charlotte Bowl and a Bowl in Orlando or Tampa are great.

instead of Houston bowl I wish the Big East had went after the "Music City" or "Outback" bowls.

The Outback bowl would be perfect for BE#2 and drop Gator to #3

USF,UofL,WVU would all put a hurt attendence wise on Tampa

I think that comment was some type of "slang" for meaning "good attendance" in Tampa.

The big east won't split so its a moot point.

As a Tampa native, I can tell you that won't happen. They love the Big 10 and SEC matchup and frankly it rakes in the money.

I remember seeing a huge group of Wisconsin fans on Clearwater Beach during December in 50 degree weather going in the ocean........I knew they were from the freezing north.

#1 - The Big East already has the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
#2 - The post-split Big East will never expand to 12 teams.

#1 - The Big East had no choice but to go after Houston.
#2 - The Outback will not drop the SEC and Big 10 for us.

I agree with you there--however, a bowl game 4 days earlier might work at the RayJay.

If the Big East ever did get that bowl they would not want USF. Bowl games do not want home town teams. It helps with ticket sales but the local business hates it. Hotels, restaurants, flights, rental cars all suffer with a hometown team. Jacksonville is a much better deal for the Big East.
