Holliman's Complete Game Pitches No. 5 Ole Miss Past Alabama 11-1
Saturday's game moved from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

March 26, 2004

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sophomore right-hander Mark Holliman pitched a complete game as No. 5 (Collegiate Baseball) Ole Miss defeated Alabama 11-1 in the opener of a three-game Southeastern Conference series Friday evening, in front of 4,492 at Joe Sewell-Thomas Stadium.

With the win, the Rebels are now 19-2 on the season and off to their first 4-0 start in the SEC since 1972. The Crimson Tide falls to 16-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Holliman (4-0) carried a shutout into the eighth inning before Alabama strung together three consecutive two-out singles to avoid its first shutout in 105 games. He finished scattering six hits and allowed one walk, while striking out six in recording his first career complete game.

Seth Smith and Charlie Babineaux both homered in the game for Ole Miss. Smith hit a one-out solo shot in the third inning, his second of the year, to make it 4-0. Babineaux hit his sixth home run with a lead-off shot in the seventh to extend the Rebels' lead to 10-0.

Smith and Babineaux both had two hits on the night as Ole Miss pounded 13 on the evening.

Junior left-hander Brent Carter (4-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks, while striking out five in four innings.

Ole Miss broke open a 4-0 game with five runs in the fifth to build a 9-0 lead.

Ole Miss and Alabama will continue the three-game series Saturday evening at 6 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for 4 p.m., but was pushed back due to the Alabama men's basketball team's NCAA Tournament game against Connecticut scheduled for 3:40 p.m.

Yeah Dawgs! Appreciate the update, I've got to go out of town at 2:00 a.m. and hated to have to wait on the 10:00 news.

How did the Bulldogs do in the rubber match with LSU?

we got our butts handed to us, lost 14-3. Man our pitching and hitting has gone way south and the inexperience is starting to shine thru. Ah well, can't wait for the Ole Miss-LSU matchup, this one is going to be very good this year. Though I can't stand LSU, can't deny the power of that baseball team this year but I am looking for Ole Miss to do well against them.
