MyBB Transfers
I'm not sure of the statistics, but, it seems that a lot more kids are out transferring for their last year of eligibility. In almost every case I've seen, they've been immediately eligible. I'm sure there are loop holes and what not that I'm not familiar with. I suppose my point of this post is, I found myself initially frustrated that these rich teams were becoming richer. For Example:

Josh Davis--Tulane/San Diego State
DeAndre Kane--Marshall/Iowa State
Tarik Black--Memphis/Kansas
Michael Dixon Jr--Missouri/Memphis (not really a good example)
Rodney Hood--Mississippi St/Duke

These are just the ones I've noticed.

To wrap this up, I went exploring the reasons why some of these kids left their respective teams. I was really surprised about one young man's departure and how he handled it. Watching DeAndre Kane in person, he would always get under my skin because of his cockiness. He seems to be a pretty good kid from what I've read...

RE: Transfers
As I understand the transfer operation, the circumstances of the move determine when a transferring player can be eligible. As UAB found out with the recent BB transfer from St Peters and the attempted transfer of a player from Bama, it also depends upon the former coach's willingness (or in the case of the latter, those above the coach in athletic administration) to release him.

In some cases, the player can be eligible immediately and in other cases, he must "sit out" part or all of a season.

In BB, transfers are now reaching the 400 to 500 number nationally so we may see new rules imposed by the NCAA to handle the more complex operations.

Sorry about that. I get those saints (their schools anyway) all mixed up.

RE: Transfers
I think we are going to see some stricter rules in place in the coming years. There seems to be a lot of the rich getting richer.

If the rich are getting richer, there won't be a rule change from the NCAA. However, if it results in the poor closing the gap, THEN things will tighten up.

I don't recall the NCAA ever making any specific rules to keep the rich programs from getting richer. What rules that may have that intent (no athletic dorms, no "tear away" jerseys, limiting FB scholarships to 85, etc.) were only symbolic in actual effect. The BCS has resulted in a system that practically excludes 100+ teams from any real shot at any FB NC in any year. "Who have they played?" is frequently asked, but I have never heard any TV or other media guys ask "Who has REFUSED TO PLAY THEM?"
