not to get into a whole thing, but I just don't understand this. to me the NBA has become the most fun league to watch. The 4th quarter of that Spurs-Rockets game was amazing. or I could watch the Mizzou-UCLA game where the former connected on 3 field goals in a 17 minute stretch and still beat #19 UCLA by 9!!

99% of college basketball games are far less enteratining than that one.

Personal example: I watched Kansas vs. VIllanova last week and it was brutal. I couldn't believe how brutal the offenses were and had it not been for the last second 3 by VU (a guy who was previously 0-8 in the game), it would've been one of the sorriest games I've ever watched..and that was between two consistently great cbb teams.

A day later I attended the Wizards/Hawks game (two average NBA teams) and I saw about 4 moments that made me go "Oh damn!"....three by John Wall alone and one by Al Horford. The defense and shooting were both much better by both teams as well and it was obvious.

The talent, athleticism and entertainment value is so different top to bottom between CBB and the NBA, it's unbelievable.

exactly my point. the other point to be made here is that college fans often equate close games with great games. Close and great are not synonymous. And that goes for every sport. I've watched enough 58-57 college games, only to see fans and analysts talk about how good of a game it was. Most of the time it was just a poorly played game that ended in a close score.

Also, your point about a random NBA game being fun to watch, is valid. Tonight the Nuggets play the Wizards. Neither team is a championship contender, but there will be a lot of high quality pick and rolls along with some disciplined offense. Too bad Bradley Beal is hurt

I'm a big Wiz fan (one of the few) and John Wall is truly a treat to watch. The guy sees the floor so well and makes at least two explosive plays per game that leave me shocked. Also, Javale McGee will be making a homecoming but I expect him to get cheers. People here liked him a lot, despite his low basketball IQ.

Also, there are so few elite players in college basketball. There might be thirty guys in Division 1 right now who will play more than 4 seasons in the NBA. The only way that College Basketball can get better is if the NBA mandates a 3 years out of high school minimum rule to play in the Association.

Watching your game right now. If Beal was healthy the level of talent on the floor would be really high: Wall, Beal, Gortat, Nene, Lawson, Faried, Chandler

Nene was hurt too (as was Lawson for Denver)...and Martell Webster who can score as well. It sucks when you know your team has no chance of getting a bucket in an Iso situation. Being 9-11 at this point is not where this team thought they could and should be. Very frustrating as a fan to continue to see the same mistakes played out year and year again even when the supposed talent is there.

Regular season NBA games bore the crap out of me. Talk to me when it gets close to playoff time.

What's funny is that when Curry was carrying Davidson into the tournament, I bet every college fan loved it. Now he's performing the same feats, but alongside such players as David Lee, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Andrew Bogut. Yet these are the games college fans describe as boring.

Tonight's Bobcats-Warriors game ended with the former winning 115-111 and featured Curry (43 points, 9 assists and 6 rebounds) squaring off in a battle with Kemba Walker (31 pts, 5 assists and 5 rebounds). Those 2 were basically gods in their respective final seasons in college. Yet tonight's game, which adds many other great players from college - now playing at a higher level and with more discipline- is the type of game you describe as boring.

When Curry carried Davidson to victory over Gonzaga in the 2008 tournament, he was playing alongside such illustrious players as Thomas Sander (who?), Andrew Lovedale (say what?) and Jason Richards (see previous two names). But that game was the interesting one and tonight's game was the boring one?

The other thing to mention is how much better NBA players are than when they were in college. Kevin Durant was great enough at Texas to warrant being the #2 pick in the draft. Yet as a Thunder fan I can tell you KD is only about a thousand times better now than he was back then. Which KD would you rather watch: the college assassin, or that same assassin who is now an excellent rebounder, amazing passer and very good defender? Any sane basketball fan would pick the latter. Why would anyone want to watch an inferior product?

Because of gimmicky March Madness. That's why Curry's run with Davidson was "memorable" to so many. The son of an NBA player who carried a tiny school in North Carolina against schools whose athletic budgets dwarf his schools is a great STORY. People don't watch March Madness because of quality of basketball anymore, they do because it's a system designed to be really interesting for 4 days.

The NBA is a long, tough season that will feature many games where guys are tired and veterans take games off to rest....not nearly as sexy as a single elimination tournament in March.

Anybody who likes basketball as a sport knows how much better the NBA is in terms of quality and talent.

Also, the NBA got a bad rep from 99-03 for being a league full of thugs and derelicts...I think there is a race factor involved as well when people dismiss the NBA. So many people still assume the league is full of gansters, criminals and thugs when in reality the league has a FAR lower arrest rate than the NFL.

You're right. When the 90's era stars left, the league was carried by Allen Iverson and the like. Those were indeed dark days for the NBA. I think the dress code, implementing the one and done rule and the introduction of foreign talent have led to a resurgence in fan appeal.

The only real issue at this point is the LeBron is such a dominant player that he will probably reign unopposed for another 5 years. Knowing who will win the championship before the season even starts doesn't help sell your product to the casual fan.

As of right now the Heat are not good enough to beat the Pacers in a seven game series. That could change come the trade deadline, but the Pacers are too physical and deep right now.

I don't do any serious evaluation of team performance until after the All Star Break. I think the Heat are just sleepwalking through the regular season, trying not to get hurt. And considering the Pacers will probably have to go thru a slugfest with the Bulls, they'll have been softened up enough for LeBron and company to run over them.

I don't know....this Pacers defense is incredible. Gonna be real hard to score on them without the help of officiating.

i believe there is something to say about loving imperfection. the product is undoubtedly inferior but the hearts on the courts are oversized. but i have no dog in the fight. i have my teams. bearcat basketball is paramount regardless of how terrible they are

It's not only that the league used to be filled with ghetto hoopstars, but that the brand of basketball was inferior. Before Mike D'antoni helped revolutionize the offensive game, the NBA was just a 1 on 1 league. Iverson, Marbury, Carter, etc. The league was full of ball hogs who'd shoot 42% from the field. Today's NBA is nothing like that one

A day later I attended the Wizards/Hawks game (two average NBA teams) and I saw about 4 moments that made me go "Oh damn!"....three by John Wall alone and one by Al Horford. The defense and shooting were both much better by both teams as well and it was obvious.

The talent, athleticism and entertainment value is so different top to bottom between CBB and the NBA, it's unbelievable.

i believe there is something to say about loving imperfection. the product is undoubtedly inferior but the hearts on the courts are oversized. but i have no dog in the fight. i have my teams. bearcat basketball is paramount regardless of how terrible they are

I get the argument, but I watch Russell Westbrook play 82 games and I see more heart than anyone in college (except maybe college era Russ). Hell, even a bum like Perkins gives it his all night in and night out.

That being said do NBA players take some plays or games off? Yes, but they play 82 games, all against the best players in the world. How many games do the Bearcats play against quality opponents? A cursory glance at their first 7 games shows NC Central, Campbell, Massachusetts Lowell, Kennesaw St and USC Upstate (whatever the F that is). And then we add in the fact that a team like the Bearcats usually has around 4 days off between games. In the NBA, teams get no more than 2 and often play back to backs. It's a lot easier to go 100% in college than in the NBA.

true, but they're supposed to be going to class also and deciding on which kegger to scope out. but like i said i like my teams and that's it. i really don't care to watch sports if my team isn't playing. being a bengals fan, i haven't watched a super bowl since 1989.
