RE: Another year, another defensive coach fired
I think this dismissal has more then field performance issues behind it.
There has been a lot off the field and voliations team rule issues with the LBs this year
I would expect Wilder does hold the position coach responsible for the actions of the players
They have direct supervision of.

But for why do all these issues have to do with hampton kids? Maybe not vetted correctly? I'm just saying it may be possible.

Phoebus turns out some great players but also several have been dismissed from our team. It may be the culture at the hampton level.

Even Craig Wilkins, one of our very few defensive bright spots, was a true safety.

I don't know enough about the decision making process as far as recruiting, but we just haven't had the personnel at LB. Heck, Ritchie Staton was a Tight end and a returner in HS.

Staton only played TE & DE his senior year of high school at Phoebus. From his freshmen thru his junior year at Kecoughtan he started and played both outside & inside Linebacker. "His natural position".

Staton is a real treat for us because we he's playing alongside guys who are built like safeties, no knock on them they are very talented. I'm talking about Wilson and Johnson.

The difference between where we are currently and competing with Marshall is we need 5 or 6 linebackers on the roster like Staton.

DJ Simon started playing well towards the end of the year. I think Ricks can improve and be effective next year too if given the chance. A few JC transfer LB's next year would help also.

I agree with you on Simon and Ricks and assuming we sign JuCos Justin Gilchrist and Ryan Langford then we will have some sort of depth in quality LBs next year if Oshane Ximines and Jaylin Jeffries don't redshirt. I think that's fairly decent quality for only two years of recruiting. Seven LBs is hardly a complete roster, but it's a vast improvement on what we currently have.

I would hope that BW is going to get some new JuCos interested on his travels. Between now and the end of the year we'll see a lot of JuCos come on the scene and get rated as they are recruited by big schools when coaches travel in December and the recruitment websites inevitably rate them after a lot of interest.

He was hired when we were an FCS school. He was a LB coach. It's not a highly desirable position.

That aside, do you really think that it's a big deal he never played about Division III?

Off the top of my head:
Bill Belichick-never played above Division III
David Cutcliffe (Duke)-never played above high school
Larry Fedora (UNC)-never played above Division III
Charlie Weis-never played above high school
Todd Monken-never played above Division III
Mike Leach-never played above high school

And on and on. You gotta give these guys a shot sometimes. Obviously they don't all pan out, but like we discuss in the recruiting threads--not every 4 star guy works out either.

Coach Comissiong was in Erie to see Felix at practice yesterday and he talked to Coach Nagy last night. Felix was bummed as he had a good relationship with Coach Hetherman. He understands the situation and has not waivered on his commitment to ODU. He said Coach Comissiong was cool and he enjoyed talking to him. Both Coach Comissiong and Coach Nagy are planning to be back in Erie next week for an in-home visit. Felix's team is still playing and is in the PIAA AAA semi-finals this Friday and then hopefully playing for their second consecutive state championship next Friday.

Looks like he has a decent background but my only question is why hire a LB coach who has never played LB or coached LBs.

At least he is an experienced recruiter.

Last sentence of the press release: "Edmonds was an All-State and First-Team All-Conference linebacker at Nottoway High School as well as a two-time All-District honoree on offense and defense."

Might have been high school, but he seems highly knowledgeable about defense to me.

Thanks for the clarification. Harry's article did not mention that.

Good hire for ya'll. Edmonds is a great guy with high energy.

He was one of the few I would have liked JMU to keep around.

I'll take your word for it. Hope he's ready for the scrutiny. The spotlight is heating up on the defensive side of the ball.

definitely a good hire for you guys. Edmunds is a good recruiter as well. He's brought many of our best players from the state of VA the last few years.

I believe he was the one who got us Stephon Robertson, 2-time CAA defensive POY.

We got a new defensive coach again! I really like the new coach's resumé.
