I didn't watch all of it but apparently the triple option is hard to stop. I've been a critic but if it can beat Florida than clearly it is a viable option in the Belt. Why don't more teams use it?

Because if you fall behind by two TDs you have less than zero chance of winning.

Yes I think so. You guys run a really unconventional offense in 1-A. I really didn't think that a one dimensional offense would work on this level. Clearly it gave FLA trouble. It is going to give us trouble.

What the hell would you know about winning?

The offense is never going to win any awards for the best two minute offense in the country. The advantages is that you can run clock, keep your defense off the field, and take advantages of games in which the opposing team might have more talent on the defensive side of the ball. It forces the defense to play assignment football...something that many defenses struggle with.

The downside is that an offense that commits a bunch of penalties will put themselves behind the 8 ball, and will struggle in passing downs. Thus, triple option teams have to know the offense front and back so they don't end up in long yardage situations

Yes and turnovers seem to always be an issue.

Fair assessment.

After halftime, the sidle line reporter asked coach Monken what adjustments he made. His response was "None. Just hold on to the ball." I almost **** myself when he said that. But he was right. When its working and being executed well, keep it running. We have been (with the exception of the UF game) been working more with the shotgun and passing more frequently.

If you can find a triple option quarterback who can actually throw the ball accurately then you really have something.

Problem is that most triple option QB's come out of High School systems where they didn't throw. If you were a good High School QB who could throw, chances were your coach created an offense to utilize that.

I see a lot of that in Arkansas. Some teams almost never throw the ball, while others line up in the spread and throw it 40 times a game. In almost every situation, the playbook was set around the skillset of that particular QB.

We have been fortunate to have a few-- Tracy Ham was a very good passer and went to Canada and played many years up there throwing the ball all over the field.

But you are right -- most triple option quarterbacks in high school are not really very good passers.

You know Ellison was doing pretty good until his shoulder was injured. I know two of the three throws he attempted against UF was not his fault. He was hit while trying to throw one and another got tipped at the LOS.
