Hmmm, I didn't see anything that he said about any of the schools listed other than he didn't have a favorite and would likely decide on National Signing Day.

Nice find though. I do hope the Canadian ties pay off.

24x7 sports.com says Rice has a hard commit from Josh Cummings, a 5-10/175 CB from Dallas Jesuit...they seem to be the only ones listing a commit...Yahoo says he's 5-11 and had interest/offers from BC, Kansas, and Cornell. Any scoop on him?

Rivals reported it this morning, but it's behind the paywall. Hasn't been much released on him yet outside of that. Looks to be a "sleeper" kind of guy though.

Well that's the same high school as Jordan Spieth, and as Verne Lundquist was happy to report on today's Masters coverage, it's also the high school of Roger Staubach's granddaughter. I'm not sure what that has to do with Josh Cummings, but I thought it was a silly fact for CBS to pass along.

Yea, that was a real head scratcher. Just like this March 1 tweet from Troy Aikman:

I doubt very seriously that it's the same high school as Roger Staubach's grandDAUGHTER. I think that would more likely be its sister school, Ursuline.

Verne definitely said "grandDAUGHTER", but I suspect you're correct.

Roger's daughter, Jennifer Staubach Gates, whom Lundquist also mentioned on air, was an '84 Ursuline grad and serves on several boards there. Her youngest daughter is now at UT, where Spieth attended, briefly. It's reasonable to think that the daughter attended Ursuline. (BTW, Jennifer's husband is John A. Gates, who was president of The Staubach Company when it was acquired in 2008. It doesn't appear that he's closely related to the husband of the 1982 Ursuline valedictorian, however.)

Verne's been wrong before. Jesuit is definitely all boys. Ursuline is right down the street and is the girls' school. Good friend of mine is the rugby coach at Jesuit, and I have helped them run their rugby tournament a few times.

He put up very good numbers.

There would be a very nice media exposure collateral benefit (for those out of town, his dad is one of the leading sports radio personalities in Houston).

His dad seems very close with Sumlin and Holgerson--will be interesting to see how that plays out. JT's predecessor at QB at Kinkaid is at West Virginia.

Dad is also close to Tony Levine, but I don't see him picking UH over Kinkaid (don't know them but why go to Kinkaid if you were going to pick UH?)

Ford Childress suspended from WVU for a semester...it's bad when Kinkaid guys start getting suspended. Is bad enough private kid schools from Texas can never get on the field in DIv 1 programs...

According to the Longhorns 24/7 page, Donnelly may receive an offer from UT this spring.

Every program out there would take Donelly. I can't see Stanford not being interested, and that worries me more than UT or anybody else based on his comments. Oh well.

247sports.com now reports that Herndon "unofficially visits Texas Longhorns for their spring game." While still committed to us (as tight end), UT is apparently after him. Hang tight, Hunter.....

I'm afraid the lure of playing big time college football, while living and going to school in Austin will be a little too much for him to resist. I hope I'm wrong.

The key is the word "playing". That could be a much more difficult proposition at ut than Rice.

Also, just because Herndon was at the spring game does not mean he'll be offered. Strong has been very stingy with offers, especially compared to Mack. This satisfies both the Rice and UT fan in me.

Well, I am a bit worried. Coach Strong insists he is going to improve his team's academic standing. I heard on the radio a couple of weeks ago that he told a couple of UT players they'll be gone if they aren't in class -- gone, not benched, not on probation. Herndon could be the kind of scholar-athlete he'll start seeding into his recruiting classes.

FWIW, the impression Strong makes on me is very positive. He reminds me of a brigade commander I had -- tough, strict, straight-forward, demanding respect but giving respect. He strikes me as being very astute and deliberate.

Joe Bergeron took the spring off to focus on academics, but word is that he is going to be back in the summer so that is promising. But why am I talking UT football in a Rice recruiting thread haha! Back on topic, we have offers out to the following prospects according to ESPN:

Billy Ray McCrary III, ATH, Leander, TX
Isaiah Edwards, OT, Katy, TX (Cinco Ranch)
Zach Lucas, OT, Katy, TX (Taylor)
Neville Gallimore, DE, St. Catherine's, ON, Canada
