Do we sit and wait on the BOT to be feeling particularly gracious (which if they aren't now during Bama's current streak, they never will be) or do we organize things ourselves and make them tell us "no" over and over and over again. We need to be the thorn in their flesh. I thought that is what the #freeuab movement started out to do, but it has quietly faded into nothing.

No, we don't have fans. Why? Possibly because we aren't winning games, possibly because we can't recruit on the level of our conference mates due to lack of facilities, possibly because of the location of our current stadium. All of these can be fixed by one simple process...start investing in UAB athletics. Not just personally, but corporately, as a city and as a system. And not just monetarily.

We all know that we will be in a much better situation if we were allowed to have a modest stadium on campus with expansion possibilities as it's needed. Our money can't buy the kind of coach that it will take to come in and turn what we have into a winner...the minute someone takes us to that level, they are gone...we all know that. Do you think we will then get a stadium approved at the same time we are trying to hire a coach? Again, we all know the answer to that question.

Currently, we are exactly where the BOT thought we would be during the whole #freeuab movement. They knew that if they just weathered the initial storm, we would get tired of fighting them and everything would go back to normal. And they were right. Because they were right, they'll do the same thing next time.

Honestly, the football team is 22 years old. From the day we aired up the first football, there should have been a plan in place to make sure that UAB football would have a home on campus. Our athletic program itself is 35 years old, that's plenty of time to make sure that all of our programs are on campus.

We need to make some noise. There need to be stories done by 30 for 30, Sports Illustrated, USA Today, FoxSports1, whoever we can get talking about how the BOT that is in charge of what the nation views as the best college football program in the country is also responsible for one of the worst in the country. We need to email reporters outside of our local area to do stories on how unbalanced the care for the programs is and paint it in a very negative light. We need to put together talking points for them that point out the fact that, no, we don't compete with our peers, but that's because we can't get the funding from our own board to be on a level playing field...in turn, that has caused us to lose money year after year and put us at a disadvantage, all the while frat houses, new baseball stadiums and waterfalls have been built down the road with the idea that it is an investment that will help them improve. We have to spell out the double standard clearly for them. The timing is perfect for this. If someone here can put together a well worded explanation of everything briefly enough to be read and not deleted (with talking points) and the rest of us collectively started seeking out email addresses of national sportswriters and tv personalities then we could "play our part."

Make some noise!

The chain reaction that follows an effort like that goes something like this:

1. UAB fans/supporters generate some negative coverage of the BOT.

2. BOT member reads or hears about critical press or coverage

3. Said member picks up phone and calls UAB. He expresses his displeasure and suggests a more proper way for UAB supporters to channel their passion, like attending games and donating $ (although those protesting already do both).

4. UAB employee says "Yes, sir!"

5. UAB employee(s) communicate the correct thinking to supporters, emphasizing the risk of continued agitation to the program and the employee's livelihood.

6. Duly chastened, loyal supporters back off.

7. The BOT member reads once enraged UAB fans repeating the mantra that he himself inserted into their thought-stream and smiles, stroking his Persian while his man servant fetches a bottle of something special to help savor the moment.

03-lmfao 03-lmfao& somewhat accurate!!!

Southern Miss put themselves thru a table when they hired that miscreant Ellis Johnson. They haven't gotten his stench off the program since he got there. At least they have the resources and a more determined & dedicated fan base to get them back to where they belong. UAB has neither.

They can't be too "shi**y", 3 of them(Middle Tennessee, "Meep-Meep U" & Florida Atlantic) have come in their 1st season of conference play and taken UAB to the woodshed, & all of them are at best, bowl eligible or one game away from being so. That's pretty (bleeping) embarrassing.

He might feel he should apologize to UAB fans for starting a football program with only basketball facilities to work with banking on hopes that truly football facilities would be built in the near future. The fact that that future time has not yet arrived ("planned", not "built") is not something he could have predicted. A lot of people failed to see the impact of 2 inflationary wars, a recession that has cut state funding for all levels of public schools and the ire of a hostile BOT after 1990.
