Mickey should go to a school like Western Carolina, Northern Colorado, Savannah State, or UVA where the expectations are low, fans have minimal interest, the press isn't too hard to deal with, and post season play isn't important.

So as we suspected ... huge interest in the JMU job. I would think this job might even trump NDSU as the top spot for FCS. Location, facilities, history, etc. We should have FCS coaches knocking down the door to get in here.

BUT ...

It is no secret that JMU is going FBS. There will be a number of FBS level coaches chomping at the bit to get in at JMU and make that transition. We should be primed to make this move. I'm thrilled to see we are going to take the time to hire the right guy. Here's to hoping it's a young, enthusiastic coach willing to make a name by taking JMU to the next level!

A cool thing that will come of the interviews with various candidates is that JMU will likely hint at what conference we are going to... these interviewees are not bound to JMU if not offered the position and could leak the potential conference.

You don't think they have to sign a NDA when they interview? Seriously?

I'm double fisting purple sauce, maybe Alger has another big announcement soon, Please, Please! I was beginning to doubt he had it in him but...just maybe he does. The coach and the contract fill in a few more missing puzzle pieces.

If Rose was president, would he have fired Mickey Matthews this quickly?

Hearing early candidates for the #JMU Football job include Wisconsin assistant Chris Beatty and Virginia Tech assistant Bryan Stinespring.

If we even THINK about Stinespring, I have to question our leadership.

you think an NDA is going to stop a coach tell someone who will tell someone who will tell the world?

Not that I want him as our coach, but recruiting is a huge part of being a CFB coach and Stinespring is known as a great recruiter (esp. In the Commonwealth)

I don't see how you can search for a HC, without stating the plans going forward with JMU FB. The biggest buzz would be to announce at the same time. You can't pay for a FBS coaching staff, while sitting in the CAA.

Beatty is a non-starter as well. Dude has only been a FBS position coach, and had one year at Hampton as an HC.

Harry Miniums "sources" regarding JMU are laughable.

It's unfortunate to have to let Mickey go, but the product on the field had been too subpar since 2009 to justify keeping him. It's not like we didn't have talent either. Game in and game out we kept seeing the same mistakes and same frustrating brand of football that was just NOT working after Landers left.

I hope Mickey gets a good job somewhere. Not sure if he wants to be a Head Coach right away (or ever again), but I can definitely see a lower level FBS team wanting him as a DC.

He could do wonders for Ole Dirty's defense. Goodness knows, they need someone to do wonders for their d. Wouldn't it be ironic to see him on their sideline when we meet at the fbs level?

Why? I'm asking because I honestly don't know the history of him or why he would be so horrible. Isn't he a former JMU player?
